Even though he doesn't say he will not play again, it's pretty obvious we won't see Abi back on the pitch again. I guess doctors have a final word, no matter how much he wants to play again and obviously doctors told him he can't play on high level again.

Very disheartening news. Wouldn't it be great if we could get to the Champions League Final and sub on Abidal near the end if the match is won so he can go out in style?

Its sad but its the logical decision, health comes first and we should be glad he is even alive.

I have only hoped he'd live a happy & healthy life, football was always a remote possibility after a liver transplant...His case is unprecedented but it was improbable he'd come back to play regularly...Never say never but be happy the guy can lead a normal life for someone who is just 33 years old...Priority has to be staying healthy

Couple of times I have seen him play live and he was the best player on the park both times.

Never seen a defender as calm and composed as that in my life.
