He confirmed that Tito wanted him to continue for 1 year but Zubi told him that he wasn't part of his plans.

Yes. also said that rosell told him he wasn't the one making decisions.

As if I needed any more reason to dislike zubinepto even more...

“[Former manager] Tito Vilanova told me if I was okay physically and also on a sporting level then he would put me in," Abidal revealed.

"But Zubizarreta informed me that he clearly did not see me in the squad for the following season, while Sandro Rosell told me 'I do not make the decisions'.

“I would have liked to continue there for a few more years, but you can’t always get what you want in life."

To be fair Zubi called that right.

From a purely football point of view there is no way he was fit enough to carry on playing at the level Barca required. Could see that almost every time he played for Monaco.

Not very més que un club though.

What not giving him a new contract if given medical advice he could no longer play at top level?

The worst thing for the club and Abidal would have been to have him sitting in the stands on some kind of token gesture contract. He believed he was fit enough at top level and wouldnt have wanted that.

Maybe they shouldn't have promised him anything infront of the entire world if they knew they couldn't keep it?

Maybe not but it would have been worse for Abidal and the club had they decided to stick to that promise depsite the club no longer relying on him as a player.

They still offered him a contract and a job anyway, just not as a player.
