Erling Haaland

Aren't they expanding number of teams and matches in CL pretty soon?
The likes of Haaland and Mbappe probably would beat most records in current format by the time they retire, they will no doubt crush them now.

They have always expanded number of games though, CL had fewer games in the past if you go back a few decades.

Just seen highlights, that goal he got ruled out didn’t see much wrong with it. What a beast this guy is, he shrugged Diego Carlos off like he was nothing  and he’s not exactly the weakest defender.

Seeing his disappointed look sitting on the bench this Saturday after Bayern turned the game around from 0-2 to 3-2... He is not staying for another season at Dortmund, definitely.

CL had far more games in the late 90s and early 2000s than today. Nowadays CL has max 13 games by one team, back then it was 17.

Really? Surely they had fewer in the 90s?

Yes most players in the 90s had less games than those today. However players who actively played CL the late 90s and early 2000s had 4 more CL games each season, than players of today. 1998 and 2003 there was no Round of 16, but instead a second group stage.

  • That meant teams played Group A/B/C/etc for 6 games.
  • Then played a 2nd Group 1/2/3/etc for another 6 games.
  • Then played Quarterfinal (2legs), Semifinal (2legs) and Final (one leg)

17 games in total. Back then all you had to do to play 12 CL games a season is to qualify from the first easier group stage.
Nowadays you have to at least reach the semifinal to get the chance to score in 12 games.

I think you are talking about the early 2000's CL seasons that were abandoned after 2003 or 2004.

Yes, between 1998 and 2003. So it affects players such as R9, Raul, Inzaghi, Del Piero, Klose, Shevchenko, Henry, Van Nistelroy, Rivaldo, Owen etc who played CL in those years. The likes of Mueller, van Basten, Puscas, Eusebio, Maradona etc did however play significantly fewer games than todays strikers.

Just sell everyone and get him. Coutinho+Griez+Neto+Pjanic+Alena+Lenglet+Umtiti+Fernandes should yield 100-120m. Can add Dembele into the mix too.

This would be so great. Even better would be to get Thiago as well.
I would be fine with just getting rid of exactly these players you list, and buying none.
