Erling Haaland

Looks like Todd from Breaking Bad.

To me Haaland looks like any character from Simpsons due to his chin:

On the other hand, he also slightly resembles on Biff from Back to the future.
Actually, we had Riki Puig and Haaland playing together in the movie back in the 80s.

Even if I think he should be a priority, 150m is too much when we can get him for half that a year later.

He's also a bigger risk than other players that have gone for 100m who haven't lived up to expectations.
Our flops, Felix, Hazard & Pogba are examples of seemingly brilliant players who haven't been able to repay their transfer fees.

Neymar was a good buy for PSG on paper, but with that investment you'd expect Ronaldo/Messi type of performances in terms of trophies.

I'd say only Mbappe to PSG and Ronaldo to Madrid were good investments out of top 10 most expensive transfers. Maybe Bale as well.

Mbappe to PSG? He was good but what amazing stuff did he do in CL for PSG? The only top performance was against us. He missed 3 top chances in final last season. PSG has already won the ligue 1 before his arrival so imo until now the money wasnt worth for him.

He also qualified them against Atalanta last year (he completely changed the game when he got subbed in). Not that it's a massive achievement in itself, considering the fact that it was only Atalanta, but it still was worth mentioning. Overall I agree that he hasn't completely changed PSG for now. Nevertheless, his value is still probably around the same amount as it was, he generated a lot of income, and scored many goals, so it was indeed a "good investment" imho.

Bulgroz pretty much answered it.

His value is more or less the same today and this is with Covid circumstances. Close to none of the top 10 transfers have increased in value comparably.

It's difficult to see why he would look at where Barcelona are and conclude that this is the best team for him when he's pretty much going to have the pick of every top club in the world.

Why not? We are clearly a team that is in the process of a rebuild and we need new blood. Especially if Messi leaves, he would be THE new poster child, at least one the them.

Because Barcelona, and Real Madrid too for that matter are still more attractive destinations for any BdO aspiring/World Class player than most of the other teams being mentioned as possible teams he can join.

Man City due to Pep and their financial power probably the favorite though, but of the teams behind them I don't see Man Utd or Chelsea(lol) or Juventus:)lol:) being better options.

That sounds just as much like a reason not a join to be honest. He has no reason to gamble on a project that has not been on a great trajectory for years now.

A project that has not been on a great trajectory for years because of the decline of the older and senior players and the mismanagement of the previous president and board. We have started the rebuild and shown some promising early signs already.

That said, not that many teams that have shown much better trajectory in the last several years. Bayern sure. Liverpool? Two-season wonder? City? Arguably. Who else?

If all things will be equal(money, wage whatever), the only 2 teams that will be more attractive than us are Bayern and City. Maybe RM if he thinks being at RM automatically means CL glory. Any other team will be below us imo.

Liverpool - no, they are already run into the ground. They seem over the peak of a klopp lead team.

United - lol no. They play some of the most turgid football after Tottenham.

Juventus - they need a more massive rebuild than us.

Chelsea - not really, hit some good form under Tuchel but this might as well be the honeymoon period. They do have a youngish team especially upfront but they are still Chelsea, not that glamorous.

PSG - Small league. Doubt he wants to join a team that is better than the next without him.

Who else?

He's still among the highest rated talents in football and a very good player so I'm sure it was a good move to sign him.

People expected him to improve tremendously and had higher hopes. He hasn't regressed, but his level hasn't changed all that much either. That's where the grim perspective comes from. Expectations didn't meet reality.

Similar's now happening with Haaland. Folks are out there hunting for the goat category.

Clubs like Barca, Real, Bayern will always be attractive to top players. These are the giants of football and even if in a slump these clubs will rebuild and come back.

Barca Real and Bayern are the only clubs that can lure a player like Haaland. Currently Man City also has that status but without the fans and the history. Psg in the French league is not interesting and none of the Italian clubs are good enough these days.
