Erling Haaland

Horatio

You're welcome
Lets be honest here... I`ve watched all of his goals for City as well as plenty of highlights from the games. He is big, strong, extremely fast and agile and he has an excellent movement and understanding of the game. He is also a natural, instinctive finisher. But.... all of his goals do look rather simple. Haaland sort of reminds me of a Thomas Muller on steroids. Lots of tap-ins, sliding goals, all sorts of opportunistic maneuvers. His tehcnical skills are fairly limited. He cannot run with the ball, cannot dribble, cannot do much else than run and finish. Something wrong with that? Not at all! Just.. dont get carried away too much. He plays in a well-oiled machine that is Manchester City. Every striker with enough sense and physical qualities would get tons of goals. I`ve yet to see a Haaland-goal that is really great. Well, maybe the one vs PSG but generally speaking... his goals look like shit!

Did you miss his assist on Foden by any chance?

He is an excellent and high-performing goal-scorer.
But I don't think that winning games like this with the actual ManCity squad is a special challenge.
I would say the special challenge would be to lead a team like Borussia Dortmund to win the Bundesliga. As for ManCity, they already get the PremierLeague every season (even without a 9 in-front). The team is actually a collective machine full of excellent players and led by a smart tactician.
It"s not to doubt the performances or the merit of Erling.. But just saying that in terms of difficulty there are higher challenges for him, if he wants to aim higher.
(+ Haaland, despite his high-level, has failed to help Norway qualify for the WorldCup. So, the praise for this player should be balanced and calibrated I think. He is world-class striker, but not unstoppable or a cheat-code).

Not even peak Messi could lead this Dortmund to Bundesliga title. The last time Dortmund was a serious opponent was under Tuchel.

Honestly it feels like its 99% Pep. The team has a few excellent players (like De Bruyne, who's rather disappointing in big games though), but also a lot of players who have no right to be part of an all time great league team. Opposed to lets say Peps Barca, which had at least top 3 players in the world in every position.

Which I guess is also the difference between their dominance in the league and their shortcomings in the CL.

I'm talking about the league record, for the season depends how well City will do in other competitions.

Birdy, Haaland has to not only score goals, but also significantly improve City as a team to be considered a success for you?

When a team gets 90+ points and 100+ goals about every season, there is little room for improvement.

So basically, he has to win them UCL this season?

Yes, this.

And to make it more specific: not him just being there while City are winning it,
but rather him giving them that 'edge' they were lacking in big CL knockouts all the Pep years.

Thank you...

The two people here who replied with well-argued takes, were both questioning the hype
Everyone else who typed some knee-jerk one phrase stupidity, band-wagoned and twerked for him
