I’m not doubting that, and didn’t know his comments outside of the quotes that were posted here. All I said was that based on the work Valverde has done at that point in time, it wasn’t crazy for a person like Cruyff to praise him, Valverde has done good work as a manager, even playing decent football along the way. Pointing out that fact somehow makes me a “Valverde apologist” - the worst insult someone can be labelled with on this forum, like being branded a heretic during the Spanish Inquisition.
In the same post you quoted, I literally said that Barca was a step too far for him, yet the mention of ANY good thing he did is enough to be labelled as an apologist.
When I said 'Valverde apologist" I was referring to people who posted Cruyff's quote out of context. I think I was clear about that in my post. Saying that you do tend to support Valverde indirectly now. Many EV defenders going through phases after the Anfield, similar to what happened after Roma, from denouncing him, to "yes I want him out, but not all his fault", to "I think he will do well with new signings"...etc.
I do honestly think Valverde himself doesn't believe he is capable of improving the team, but he is one of the highest paid managers in the world, he has to think 10 times before leaving this comfortable job that pays for his Sarria-Sant Gervasi mansion.
