Ernesto Valverde - V1

I'd celebrate this double like a triple if Valverde would be out after this though I know for sure it won't ever be the case!

Okay he won can we sack him now?.

fucked up but so true

we managed to screw up a 2-0 lead vs a relegation team that would seal the title. Messi bails us and EV out once more. feels amazing to win another liga but im VERY pesimistic for next season if Ernesto stays

funny part was the commentator on Skysports said 'let the party begin!' when we scored early. obviously hasn't seen much of us this season

First half we playing well despite defensively looking bad.

Start of the second half wasn't bad but it went downhill quickly. Shades of the Roma game in Rome. Team was sitting back or being pinned back by 18th place Deportivo who was all but assured to be relegated. Thankfully we managed to get our head out of our asses and we won the game.

I mean it's great that we won the league but god damn man in our case nothing ever comes good from us sitting back without the ball. We aren't a team that can sit back and soak up the pressure very well.

You expect a good manager to realise this.

Come on guys let's be fair and admit to ourselves that if RM don't win CL this will be a very successful season. 90% of people here don't even care that we didn't win it but the major problem is that RM could win it again. This entire drama is not about CL it's about RM and Ronaldo. :D

Madrid winning the CL has nothing to do with how good the season is to be fair. If Madrid win the CL and we win the double and go unbeaten in La Liga I'd say it's one of those cases where it's a historical season for both as rare as that is.

As I said, Madrid are ultimate CL specialists. They will win many CLs in the future as well, at least until the format is changed. Of course this doesn't change how historically bad we've been in it this season, and that's of course not acceptable. But us losing 3-0 to Roma :)lol: still unreal) doesn't have anything to do with Madrid.

I also hope for the love of God that Real lose to either Bayern or Liverpool in the end!

It is just absurd that the vendetta is targetted at Valverde who should win manager of the year this season!
Roma was his fault - he made changes way too late - give him stick for that - that is totally fair. But it seems like many "waited for him to fail" and now feel he is exposed..
It is an unforgivable mistake - mistake of the season - and really bad coaching. Although we also beat Chelsea and Juve convincingly before that, so Valverde against top Europe-sides isn't totally hopeless after all.

Some of it is just not logical: It is easy to win the league because Real lose against La Liga teams (who then outperform Real), but we should bother much outperforming those exact same teams who can give it a go against Real?

The unbeaten streak being misleading? That is very arrogant tbh. It means that you can only win "the right way" if you play like Pep, where we deserved to win every single match we won. That will never be replicated, imo.

I think it is very fair to say that Barca should play more fluid total-football. I hope we will do that in the future as well. Expecting that we could do it with this squad in this season is being naive, imo, and therefore Valverde should be praised massively. And if you would trade a league title for a side who played more total-football and Atletico winning the league, then I really don't understand your reasoning..

Oh my god. What even.

Nope, no one is saying we should be deserving winners of ever match for league unbeaten to not be misleading. Did you follow arsenal's epl invincibles campaign? They were also lucky to go unbeaten and that is perfectly all right if you are only a bit lucky but we have been massively lucky so no, this unbeaten record is defnitely misleading as fuck.

If our board wouldn't be so useless, they would now sit down with Valverde and ask him what kind of football he wants to play next year, who does he want to reinforce our squad and what are his priorities. Then, when they hear his opinion, they should decide who do we need, what are our goals next season and is Valverde the right manager for us.

But they won't do that and will splash that 100 million on Griezmann, while our midfield still suffers.

Greizman will be starting as a winger next year, that should help our midfield quite a bit. Coutinho, Greizman and Dembele will rotate on the wing, got some talent there. The team will switch to 4-3-3 when either Messi or Suarez are out. I predict a record team goal total.

I'm quite optimistic about how Valverde will do with next year's squad, if nothing terrible happens like Umtitti leaving. S. Roberto will need to learn how to provide the quality depth at the two defensive midfield positions, but I expect that to go well. I'm looking forward to seeing better play from the likes of Paco, Gomes, and Vidal after they move on to their new teams.

I knew that would provoke
But for real: Why did Ranieri win manager of the year? Because no-one expected them to win with the odds at 1:5000! So great managerial accomplishments also take the squad, conditions, surroundings etc. into the assessment. We had bad odds as well, and therefore the achievement is huge and not just "yeah, but we are Barca, so we should win easily anyway". People think that we would win everything if the players just coached themselves and no annoying stubborn person stood on the sideline. "Messi or Ter Stegen bailed us out" is also not right, when that is what our tactics take into consideration and therefore focus more on defence.

To the last part: I think we just disagree. Imo, we haven't been lucky, just better than everyone else. Like others have pointed out: Hitting the woodwork with no goal or hitting it while scoring is sometimes seen as an indicator of luck/unlucky and this season we have hit it more than ever, but won anyway.
Yes, we had Ter Stegen in topform, but he has had fewer saves than last year :amazed: So no "only bailed out by him"-narrative is right, we were more solid overall.

I certainly don't agree with some of the expression of the team during this season, where we gave the ball all too often to Messi instead of playing fluidly overall, where Messi is just a part of it - that would work much much better. But I am willing to give Valverde the benefit of the doubt (now that he has got the results). I'm sure he wants to improve our playingstyle as well.

I expect Paco, Gomes and Vidal to be sold in the summer.

Madrid winning another UCL is just one small part of it, but It's more about the way we lost to Roma, and how we are repeatedly getting humiliated every year in UCL. Not to mention playing style, not developing youngsters, overly dependent on Messi (even more than Lucho's days), shit midfiled, EV's fetish for Gomes....etc.
