Ernesto Valverde - V1

Ghostmaster

Danger Ahead
Yeah, well at least Valverde system is starting to make sense. It's a midfield based one, pack as many midfielders as possible who lose the ball less, win it back more and attack patiently. The attacks are quite slow though but we can still score since we have good passers on board

Yep, at the start of the season with Dembele on the left, Couthinho in midfield, the team really looked like a mess, but now with Arthur and no Dembele, they are connecting better.

Because he is an average coach that's can't introduce new tactics or formation. A good coach will make his players are ready for the new tactics/formation. Also, he is the coach that doesn't get most of his players. Still doesn't know what to do with Coutinho, Dembele, Maclom...etc.

This is how Pep's training session goes, watch the intensity

Now watch Valverde's training session, I remember we used the same intensity in my elementary school

I guess users here are ok with winning at all costs even if we have to play defensively and never utilize our squad depth. What makes our club different now than Chelsea, juventus, or PSG?

Liverpool, Real Madrid, Man City have been playing more offensive/Barca style football than Barca ever has in the last 3 years

when exactly did we play defensively?

 Look I hate him too but this is incomparable. Those are two totally different parts of training sessions. One is tactical part of training session and other is a warm up. :D

As much as i dislike Valverde its not fair to compare him to Pep. Its out of the question that he isn't anywhere near Pep in most aspects of coaching but thats probably true for every possible barca coach in the near future.

I cant lie im a big fan of this 4-4-2 thing.. its nothing new or anticruyffian. Pep played it plenty of times with iniesta on the left. Plus, when you have an Iniesta or a coutinho on the left it can hardly be called a 4 4 2, rather a faux 4 4 2. This formation leaves little room for opposite teams to attack. I think Valverde is doing a fine job nowadays and he knows what he is doing unlike a the competence lacking Enrique. The issue with Valverde is his not giving a fuck about the futur but only his results while he is at the club. That s where my concern stems from. But regarding results, and short term goals, I would.select very few over him this season.

Ok. One day later, I'll try to do an objective analysis of Ernie's work yesterday.

The positives

1. Inclusion of Rafinha - Yes, I was very sceptical about this one, but looking back I understand why Rafinha played. Ernie wanted someone to slot in and play that Messi role. Rafinha did that. If you look at his positioning during our attacks, he was constantly drifting into the middle (and that's also how he scored, a typical Messiesque run into the box). If he really decided to start Rafinha before, or was he just punishing Dembele for being late is another question.

2. Still using Arthur - This guy just keeps getting better and better. And helps Busquets big time. He is the glue that holds our midfield together.

The negatives

1. The Roberto-Semedo question - I don't know if only I saw this, but when Roberto plays, Rakitić consistently needs to fill at RB. That resulted in a pretty bad performance from Rakitić until Semedo came on. When Semedo came on Rakitić became a different player on the pitch. He was included in almost every attacking play and in the end played that pass to Alba. Also, Inter's LW and LB are nothing special. Marcelo, on the other hand, is one of the best LB's in the last 5 years. With Bob constantly up the pitch and Rakitić having to cover, this could end badly (if he plays, of course).

2. Man managment and in-game managment - Pretty self-explanatory. We have a Clasico this weekend. Why is he still running starters into ground? Sub one or two of them, ffs. Also, his reading of the game is pathetic. Coutinho was dead tired in the 2nd half and he didn't sub him.

Check Pep's UCL away record

I'm aware thanks. Pep is still so far above Valverde that its almost an insult to him to even bring up a comparison to Ernie. I know you're like the biggest Valverde fan ever but thats something that probably even Ernie himself would agree on

Pep has his weaknesses just as every human. I think he almost believes too much into his style to play it safe from time to time so he has problems especially in away games and he tends to kinda outsmart himself by coming up with new gameplans his players can't handle. But when it comes to playing barca style football, being very detailed about how his players should position themselves, passing etc, in-game coaching and most importantly always giving everything and being super energetic about football nobody on top level comes close to him and surely not Valverde. Idk how anyone who has seen Pep and Valverde could even disagree, well unless its someone who just likes to disagree for the sake of disagreeing of course.

So its really not fair to compare the two in training or any other way, Valverde is another type of person than Pep.

I thought this doesnt say much? Why u posting this for?

Why would you think passing maps in general don't say much? I made the case for one in question back then. And backed it up. Semedo came in in the 72nd minute. So this one depicts well the state on the pitch.
