Ernesto Valverde - V1

Great result for Barca, tough game and showed great character. Liverpool have Newcastle away Saturday so they won't have the luxury of resting players.

Their only clear chances were Milner's shot straight at Mats and that action at 3:0 where Raki cleared the ball from the goal line and Salah hit the post later.

Dembele alone in 120 seconds ruined and had more sitters than Liverpool over 90 minutes.

** Btw, I have said earlier today, Rijkaard played quite similar in 2006.
Cautious with 3 magicians upfront and that's it.
You won't concede, and yet you'll always score.

On the other hand, mighty Pep plays all out attack, scored less than us and concedes 5-6 goals against any team.

Vidal won 2 Copa Americas.
Raki just led his NT team to a WC final.
Busi, won all titles.
Experience, defending, and some magic upfront.

Also, we finally didn't have extremely short team and we didn't concede from corners, like we always do.
Raki has aerial strength. Vidal, Pique, Lenglet, Suarez. Roberto and Semedo can jump also.

Don't be delusional, Liverpool should have at least 2 goals. If they scored them, this tie is over even if we score 3 or 4 goals. If you say anything else, it means you didn't watch the game.

Why did we win? We are incredibly lethal upfront. Not only in this game, overall and that's because of Messi scoring, assisting and creating.

Why whenever someone brings up the x opposing team should have scored y amount of goals argument they decide to ignore the number of more goals we shouldve scored?

I cant stand his tactics and his player choice but how can a Barca fan say that?

We've just shithoused our way to win 3-0. So much luck, time wasting, exaggerating of fouls and referee crowding, and goals out of ass. This feels like an Atletico Madrid win.

Because that's football, luck is a big part of the game. That's how Real, for instance, won multiple consecutive UCLs! Special goals and slices of luck carried them all the way to glory again.

Luck and Messi are carrying us this season.

I had to shake my head in disbelief when we were time wasting at 1-0 at home against Liverpool. It was embarrassing. Looked like we had accepted that we were the inferior team before Messi turned up.

Would you prefer we lost?

I know what you mean about his negativity but that doesn't take away from the elation, especially after we played so poorly

Interesting stats:
Barca conceded only 1 goal in 5 KO matches this season.
We had 4 clean sheets, and conceded 0 goals in 270 minutes against English teams.

Barca's goals ratio in the last 15 years when we reached CL's semis in a current CL's format:
2006: 6:2
2009: 12:5
2010: 13:7
2011: 13:5
2012: 15:6
2015: 13:5
2019: 12:1 currently

Pep never had THIS good defensive record with Barca.
The only manager who came close was Rijkaard in 2006 (I have repeated a few times that we play somewhat similar to that era), but Rijkaard's Barca had only 6:2 goals ratio in 6 matches.

So, basically:
1. EV's Barca is scoring equally as any other Barca from the last 15 years who reached CL's final.
2. and yet, EV's Barca has a way better defense till now. Maybe it is not a coincidence that we lost only 3 league matches under Valverde in over 70 matches.
And we have only 1 CL defeat.
Also, remember those long clean sheet streaks in La Liga from the last season with his 442.

Maybe we are not AS LUCKY as people think?
Ev's team doesn't play THAT beautiful, but these results (except Roma's debacle) can't be a coincidence.

And that's a problem because? Jesus.

Sit back. Relax. Have a drink. Enjoy Messi while he's here and you're lucky enough to see him in the mood to watch screamers.

If we are lethal upfront, then isn't it the most logical to create a stonewall defense, not concede goals and let Messi do his magic?
That way, we'll concede only 0-1 in majority of matches and score 1-2-3 in majority of matches.

But since people are obssessed with attacking here: even though we already have enough fire in attack, you would strengthen attack (Dembele) even more and strengthen technique and attacking parts of midfield even more (Arthur, or possibly even Alena).

If you get my point?
Creating a stonewall defense and let Messi and 3-4 team actions per match doing their magic isn't really a bad idea.
It is a way better idea than the shit what stubborn Pep is doing, lol.
