Must be taking the piss. Klopp set up pretty much perfectly. He got done by the best player in the world, the best striker in the world and the best fullback in the world. Robertsons, Milners and Wijnaaldums can't help you against that sort of quality.

On top of that, his best defender had a poor game.

Improvin' Perfection!!
He got everything right with the exception of starting Roberto ahead of semedo.

If barca played as people wanted them to, with possession and high line, it would have suited klopp who wanted to play on the counter. Liverpool is at their worst when forced to break a team down and valverde wisely went for the defensive approach, with Vidal/busi/rakitic in midfield to match their intensity. Rather than conceding golden chances as Liverpool get behind a high line, barca only gave up half chances in their deep block, with the only proper chance to salah after 3-0.

The criticism I had of ev before the game was not playing semedo as he is faster and better defensively than Roberto. I proved to be right as the danger from Liverpool came down his side and when valverde realized his mistake and switched to 4-4-2 with semedo rb and Roberto rm, the game stabilised.

I agree with the bold part. However, I personally would have preferred to play Arthur instead of may be Rakitic as lack of creativity did hurt us a bit which is the reason why Messi had to move deeper into the mid field to try and make something & this made sure he was more or less invisible in the first half.

I may even find the reason as to why when he wanted Roberto instead of Semedo as he preferred to have the mid field of Vidal-Busi-Rakitic but as pointed before, Leo having to keep trying and getting into mid field sort of made Roberto's presence (in RB) worthless.

But, I am glad he saw it early and actually went for an early substitution this time!

first off, you are the one that insinuated our team is weak and winning this year's CL is comparable to other lucky winners in the past. that's why i was referring to the team.

second, i'm not a fan of valverde but i have to admit he turned it around a couple of times and he seems to learn from past experiences. would i like us to play more beautiful football a la current ajax? yeah i would, who wouldn't?! would i like us to win nothing while employing attacking football all the time? no i wouldn't. CL is a competition where anything can happen and being naive has pulled us down in past seasons.

third, you are overreacting with your analysis of last night's game. i too was nervous before and during the match. better to have a second viewing today and i think you'll see things differently or at least make a fair judgement of the match.

LE: and one more thing about 'chances' or 'dangerous plays' that are created against us. we had the same discussion after the lyon game, after the man utd game, after the bayern game in 2015, after the arsenal game(with the van persie red card). it is always the same - 'but but but they nearly scored, but but but they could have scored and it would have been tie over, but but but they were in the game until messi scored' etc etc etc

Dude, it's not only about playing beautiful football! Do you think this team will be competitive or anywhere near the top of the Liga table if it wasn't for Messi? Statistically, it's impossible! The biggest issue for me is the team and the coach are too dependent on Messi. Under Pep we played as a team, people can say we depended on Messi too, sure but we had the holy trinity too. It was a team! That team is long gone. Barca under Lucho depended on MSN but the responsibility became more linear or in math, we call it fitted line plot for Messi. We won the 2014-15 with a spectacular performance from Messi in the KO stage. All of us still remember Messi single-handedly destroyed Bayern in the Semis, but in the coming seasons when he went messing in KOs we didn't only get knocked out, we got thrashed! So this year, he is on fire and almost taking us single-handedly (again) to the final. Come next year, who to say he will have the same motivation? he might be demotivaded, have an off day, not in the mood and we are going to get thrashed again. I have no idea how delustinal some of the fans here thinking we have a genious manager, when the fact is take Messi out and we are at the bottom half of Liga table, an effect won't happen (or slightly will effect) if you take CR7, Salah, KDB, Neymar out of their teams.

I have to go to work!

When the lineups were announced, I was wondering what would happen. Would we deservingly lose and everyone would then see the point of EV's tactical ineptness, or we win misleadingly with some individual brilliance and luck and then get to hear by his fanboys how he got everything right? I would definitely have preferred the latter and it happened.

Let's not pretend for a single second that Liverpool was easily the better side for the first 70 min before Messi happened. We were getting outplayed pretty nicely and consistently and it did not look like we were playing at home.

LOL cant read that BS anymore.
what did liverpool exactly do? Ter stegen didnt even see the ball in the first half.
milner shots were both not 100%, salah long range was also not 100%.
only salahs miss was a real great chance.

according to klopp they played their best awy game ever LOL, imagine what would have happened if they did not.

liverpool are capable of putting 3 past us at anfield. better not pussy out and defend from minute 1 like he did against roma

Ok, and barca is capable of scoring at anfield also, barca scores 1, lpool need 5, five goals against best defence.

Edit: roma exposed barca's lack of defending long balls, set pieces, dzeko turned to drogba that match, liverpool have pace at attack, but they are not aeiral threat, and playing on long balls are not their forte., its gonna be okay

Outcoached Klopp without much of a fuss. Since his Dortmund days the blueprint to beat a Klopp side was always to let his team have the ball as they are not as dangerous on the ball as they are without it. So all they did was hoof the ball to Mané and Salah and hope for the best. Created only 1 meaningful chance when we were up by 3 goals. 30 yard hoof cross to Mané who couldn't control it at full speed is a half chance at best and Milner beating ter Stegen from that position is also a half chance. About as good as it possibly gets to shut down the most dangerous attack in the world after ours. And all this with numpties like Coutinho and Dembélé taking up positions upfront. With a speedy counterattacking threat who can actually score, like Neymar, this setup would deliver us 3 CLs in a row easily. Defending like champions and lethal upfront. The Real Madrid 3-peat-way.

Unsurprisingly, all the psychology ill people who are more concerned about being proved right on an Internet forum because they formed a strong opinion from which they cannot deviate anymore can't live with it. Well, tough luck for you guys that we won.

they have scored the most goals this season from setpieces in europe lol

I didnt know that stat, good for them, but lets be realistic here, lpool cant overturn that result, they can win, but score 4 without concede against this barca... Even if you are pessimist by nature you know lpool doesnt stand a chance, if they scored at camp, with 3:1, they would have something to fight for, with current result they can go all in and hope barca will miss sitters in front of their goal, because they are gonna open up and leave alot of space for front three.

they have a chance if we bottle it like roma, where we conceded early and didnt bother attacking. if they score in 10-15 minutes they have a chance. if they dont than we will go through

this has also been a season of upsets so you never know

No way roma will happened, players and the coach will not underestimate lpool like they did it with roma, they play vs last year finalist and top 2 team in PL on form, they will show up.

So now its about Messi-dependence or rather "saved by Messi". They just cant stop trying to discredit Valverde  :banghead:

Lets not forget who scored the most important goal in the match. Created by Vidal (who no one including myself) wanted to be in the starting line, pre-assisted by coutinho, assisted by alba and scored by Suarez. The second goal was pure luck, and almost went into the goal, again by Suarez. We trashed Madrid 3-0 without Messi.

Didn't you know, Messi joined us last season. Before that we always won difficult games without his influence.
