Ernesto Valverde - V1

I hated how long he decided to make the subs.

Again he waits until when things are finally tits up to make any changes. Guys like Arthur, Semedo should have been warming up 10 mins before HT. Coutinho was not in the game and we were struggling defensively on the right side and we lacked control.

Subbing on Semedo and Arthur could have helped us big time. Yet again he wants until we are getting fucked hard. :banghead:

Bartomeu has to be bold and get rid of some of the senior players. Madrid are one year ahead in their rebuild and are poised to have a big spend this summer. complacency can't continue. he has made good transfers overall recently but this is a test of his presidency.

edit: it goes without saying valverdes time has come to an end.

First one on the chopping block should be Suarez. He is fucking shite , a horrible human on the pitch , and a toxic waste to some Barca players.

I think suarez, rakitic need to go. ideally busquets and alba too but I doubt they'll leave as they are cantera and we know barca likes to hang on to those players no matter what.

Coutinho could salvage himself under a new coach, but I have my doubts, better to cut the losses on him and move on. I believe in dembele, just think he needs the right guidance.

there are also doubts about umtiti

This sounds hopeful !!

Barca club president Josep Maria Bartomeu has commented:-

: "The board will make a profound reflection over what has happened here."

Hopefully they announce sweeping changes. We need to be ruthless in the summer, only that kind of approach can take us forward. The club’s prestige took a big hit tonight.

Time for action.

Random thoughts:

- I would like to first congratulate LFC, key games, one after the other and they still performed. They wanted to go through and they worked for it.

- Nothing to be upset about, it is unfortunate, but we did not, not one bit, deserve to go through. Our loss to CFC in 2012 or AM were the games that we should be upset about because we played well.

- The good thing about football is that no matter how many trophies you have won, each new season is a new start.

- Valverde must leave.

- Rakitic and Suarez should have left last season.

- Busquets and Pique got their chances, it is time for them to leave. We do greatly appreciate them, but it is enough. Let us remember them well. They cannot add anything anymore.

- We got one full week rest and LFC lost two of their main attackers and Robertson got injured yet they managed to go through. They would have scored as many goals as they needed, 5?, 6? or even 7.

- Our attack is our weakest spot. They cannot keep the ball nor attack. They only can do the final touch. And they are not always good at it.

- I do not feel sorry for Messi. Suarez is here most likely because of him. They cannot and must not play together. They are slow and do not have the needed energy to hurt our opponents.

- I think our current senior players (Pique, Alba, Busquets, Rakitic, Messi and Suarez) got their chances and they did not take. Want to win the game is not enough. You have got to work for it.

- Valverde is not the main problem. JB and Abidal must be held accountable.

- Valverde is not good enough and the squad needs to be refreshed and the only one who can do that is Abidal. If Abidal cannot do that it is then because of JB.

- MDL must be bought and he should directly replace Pique. We need another attacker.

I'm in so much pain I can't even process what happened today. I have nothing to say that makes any sense or can appease anything. Just gonna let it be and stay away from football for a little while.

Every cloud has a silver lining - this was going to be the ONLY scenario where Valverde could get the sack and we get our Barca back.

the entire core of the team apart from Ter Stegen is over 30, you need experience but also younger players with larger roles/contributions

That’s a key point, but EV has done little in terms of moving the squad forward. Players like Alena, Malcom, Todibo play well, but are then not seen again for two months.

Arthur is someone who has benefited from fairer treatment, but push comes to shove EV again opted for the “tried and tested”.

What is most upsetting is the that football we play is absolutely dire. It’s literally Messi, or nothing. No one else takes any responsibility to drive the team forward (Alba aside - which is why I won’t target him following his poor game). We play a 4-3-3 with no actual wide forwards and our midfield that is full of DM’s find inventive ways to make two yard sideways passes OR look for Messi and let him do everything.

Suarez is a liability. He can’t run and struggles to control the ball. He’s also more interested in rolling about on the floor or arguing with opposition players. The time to move him on or reduce his role was last summer.

Why have we literally not once seen Messi flanked by two pacey wide forwards with Malcom + Dembele either side, with Coutinho/Alena behind? Would it work? Who knows, because we never bloody try anything different.

Why can Valverde not rotate sensibly throughout the season, making one or two changes regularly to starting line up to integrate the younger, less experienced players? Instead, we see a complete new XI in dead rubber games. He makes a proportion of the squad feel unimportant.

I can’t believe after all this time he’s still making the same mistakes and (presumably) praying for different outcomes? We all know Roberto struggles against pacey wingers, why let Mane rip him to shreds both games? Why is Roberto even seen as an option at RB when you have someone in Semedo who has all the natural tools who you can DEVELOP? Roberto’s “attacking” game is not nearly enough to offset his defensive limitations. He’s not Marcelo. If truth be told, I never really see much evidence of his attacking ability. Wague should be Semedo’s back up. Roberto should be a rotational option in midfield.

Why is Coutinho still being played as a LW when we know he can’t play that position? Play him in MF or move him on. Why have we not tried an alternative to Suarez as the CF, even once? Why has he not realised that the MF needs an injection of pace and creativity? Three DM’s is and never was the answer.

He’s so ultra conservative and surely doesn’t inspire confidence. Nor does he reward good performances with game time. It’s the same crap every match - give it to Messi. He’ll do something.

And for heavens sake WHY is Rakitic never dropped?

I don’t even want to see him next year. Get rid. Get Ten Haag in.

Give him time and a bit of patience and he’ll actually develop a coherent and balanced system of ATTACKING football where players are integrated and developed.

The squad needs a slight freshening up, but despite incorrect personnel decisions and a dire system, it is not a bad squad at all. But EV is not the man to take us forward. He’s miles behind the pack. He’s got us playing like a mid-table side.

For me the only way for him to have redeemed himself was by winning since he's clearly not got anything to offer in terms of entertaining football. Now that he's demonstrated that he's incapable of getting a result even with a massive advantage going in, there's no way but out for him. It's time we returned to what made us good in the first place. We should play proactive football. Period. This bs clutching on to the lead football teaches fear. Hard decisions need to be made. If there are senior players in the way of that now's the time to draw the line. Other than Messi everyone in this team is replaceable.

QFT.

We said after the Roma debacle that we need to start phasing people out and build a new team.

Yet here we saying the same thing. But it's painfully obvious for that to happen we need a new manager for that to happen. Valverde's idea of adding of "Rebuilding" is waiting for someone in the current XI to leave to slot someone in.

Hell there's no guarantee that will happen either. I bet my ass off we will start next season with the same fucking setup no matter who we bring in.
