Its the simple truth that the guy had a far better record than either of the two coaches that came after.

Had a much better squad with younger key players. But yeah, bar Roma and Anfield, and the pathetic Copa loss, he did well. Still horrible to watch and I won't reminisce about him at all

Setien was a disaster, but Valverde had to be disposed of. The problem was not getting rid of him, but appointing the wrong mediocre managers.

As for the re-writing of history, 17/18 was supposed to be a disaster of a season for Barca, but Valverde dominated Spain with ease.
Gets no credit for it, after the re-write its all "any coach could have done it", even though thats not the case at all.

Valverde was largely good bar the CL humiliations and boring football. We were just tragic to watch in his third season and it was getting clear he was out of ideas. A draw against Madrid with almost no produced chances, same stuff against freaking Slavia at home, etc.

17-18 was a compromise made by Valverde that opened Pandora's box for Barca.
The compromise was squeezing the best out of the veterans, while giving away all the football principles and values of the club in the way of playing
It was the moment when the time was ripe for a stable transitions and renewal, instead of the abrupt and painful we are experiencing now.

It worked of course, but with every passing month it worked less and less, and less, and less
By fall 2019, Ernieball was dead and the team was a corpse waiting to die

That's a different discussion from the humiliations

It was a compromise Valerde had no option but to make.

Was pander to veterans and try to get most out of their last years or resign.

The board would never have appointed a coach to change things. Part of reason end up with coaches did. No top candidate would have gone near Barca under those conditions.

Is that on him?
He was asked to win at any cost and was give a team of veterans to do so, because the board was too arrogant to embrace a rebuild.
Before joining us, EV was actually known as a youth leaning coach just like Koeman.
He was promised Verratti to build around beside other young players like Umtiti and Neymar

What other option did he have? Promote Alena and play him over Iniesta/Coutinho?
It isn't like there were any hidden gems out there that he wasn't fair to them

EV's time was never a transition time. His mission was winning big things like Liga and CL. Even freaking Setien was the same. Koeman last season too, except winning CL. Only now with Messi's departure and club is broke, the board start to work on transition.

If EV was the coach now, would he manage thing better than Koeman???

I'm pretty sure forum de amigos said that Valverde is the reason why Barca is shyt, that any manager can easily win La Liga and make Barca World Class again.
The same people that making excuses about how Valverde had younger players but after a new manager came in they're making an old player excuse. After losing Neymar and Barca signing Paulinho forum de amigos thought Barca will suffer a lot then end up Paulinho a big surprise then almost winning the league unbeaten.

He had a vastly different squad compared to Koeman. Compared to now, we had a pretty good team back then with a younger Messi although we were getting shat on in Europe. The 2 periods are incomparable and worse we're broke now.

You can make a poll and i believe most people will pick Pedri, De Jong, Garcia, Minguenza, Gavi....over half of EV's team. If Koeman managed team from 2017-19, i think he would have problem with his own players, ended up with worse result.
