Average football level has dropped

Yes, maybe this or future generations don't even want to be footballers. Today you have more choices. Be a YouTuber, Influencer, E-sports star etc. You can be almost anything. Becoming an athlete was everything I and my buddies dreamed of as kids because there weren't that many options.

Well when an attack line of Sarabia, Morata and a young Ferran is on the brink of reaching a Euros final it makes you wonder.

There's close to no star or WC player left among the 104 players still in the tournament. Kane probably the biggest one.

To be fair, England has alot of individual WC players- or close to be. Guys like Sancho, Kane and perhaps Grealish will be top players for CL competing EPL clubs next season.

Spain talents are average but this LE Spain has always been about the sum of all parts equalling a solid team.

I guess same could be said about Italy who are on a streak and Denmark who have been a dark house for the past couple of years putting up strong friendly and NL games.

I think all semi finalists are not even close to their peak though. Take each 11 for the timeframe for Qatar World Cup and they are still reaching their prime.

Bar one or two players like Busquets and SpeziaPizza.

Greece won Euro. How many players were top top? But yeah, if Greece can fluke it.. who couldn't?

I doubt many players from the Greece team became big names but I don't remember well either

Btw. You forgot BraithGOAT. Haha

Pretty much no one had an admirable career abroad at club level from our Greece team, except for maybe Dellas or Karagounis,Katsouranis,Kapsis,Tsiatras etc

That said, pretty much everyone will be hailed as heroes for the rest of their life!

Does this mean England play the best football in the world???

On the contrary.. it just means we are playing effectively/ efficiently...
Things could have been so different if Moller had scored ?that? chance .

I would actually say we play the poorest style of football given every team we play manage to look more natural or comfortable on the ball .

Hell we do not even start our most naturally talented players .. Grealish and Foden . Sancho played his first game yesterday !

What other team would play TWO holding midfielders against Scotland ffs

Hosts this year were 13 different countries. England hosting semi and final. England have only sole hosted it once in its history. Plus one World Cup.

When you think Germany has it next time, and that makes 2 tournaments for them, as sole hosts. Plus Germany have had two World Cups.

France have also been favoured with hosting 3 occasions. Plus 2 World cups.

Italy sole hosts 2. World Cup hosts 2.

So on the whole, England have not been favoured compared to France, Italy and Germany.

List of Hosts

no. Year Host
17 2024 Germany
16 2021 thirteen different European countries
15 2016 France
14 2012 Poland and Ukraine
13 2008 Austria and Switzerland
12 2004 Portugal
11 2000 Belgium and Netherlands
10 1996 England
9 1992 Sweden
8 1988 West Germany
7 1984 France
6 1980 Italy
5 1976 Yugoslavia
4 1972 Belgium
3 1968 Italy
2 1964 Spain
1 1960 France

Aren't there lots of kids choosing e-sports over football these days?

Its has nothing to do with who hosts it. Under normal circumstances you have 1 host and every team just travels in that one country.

There's definitely some advantage for England due to hosting the semi/final. Wouldn't say the teams they've faced would be knocking them out anyway. Germany are nowhere near as good as they previously were. Ukraine have less quality than England's C team. In fact, England have the best squad out of the remaining teams. Spain's is close in some areas but haven't had to travel much either. Italy not travelled much.

Think we're forgetting these footballers are travelling by private planes, most likely on the same day they finish a match. They arrive in their new destination after whatever injury prevention they do post-match and are able to get the same number of days training in that a team can fit in who haven't had to travel.

It has been a great advantage for England this year no doubt.
And Ukraine may have less quality than England C, but you could say the same about France for example. Maybe Netherlands too, football isn't so much about that, especially NT football.
