The only big nations we played were Croatia, Germany and Italy. We won two of those, lost the other on a penalty shootout, and only conceded once in all three games. Let's not overreact. I would happily replace Southgate if an outstanding candidate emerges, but they're never going to get rid of him for getting us further in a tournament than any manager since the 60's.

I mean since last World Cup. Only big games there Southgate lost: Croatia, Belgium. Then this one a shell of the Croatia that reached World Cup final and worst Germany in decades are the only teams we beat that are “good”

Southgate has got further in competitions because of extremely fortunate draws and Kane scoring penalties.

The Copa pitch was poor. But so was the football in the final. The Argentine team were poor compared with their WC winnning side, a joy to watch. As for Brazil, a second string compared with their WC winning side.
