Why doesn't La Liga and Serie A teams try and bolster their leagues and make them more attractive instead of crying about playing 'weaker' teams?

Yeah that's my impression. Laporta clearly must have signed something because they are listed there and from the announcement it very much sounded like Barcas participation was definite and not pending.
Either DonAK is correct and Barca simply signed just a half arse agreement (which makes it still weird then why Barca is listed as a clear founder) or Laporta tried continue without a socio vote somehow and now that its going to shit, he backtracks and says "of course we're having that vote."

We'll probably never get the truth. Not that it matters now anyway since it's getting suspended.

Florentino should resign. He's made a mockery of himself and everyone else he managed to convince to join this sham.

I really can't understand him. He was just so arrogant and off-putting in his declarations. The guy managed to bash Manchester United and Manchester City, two of his accomplices, in his speech.

I don't think i have seen worse PR.

Its not as much playing "weaker" teams as beeing knocked out by said weaker teams and loose revenue XD
Maybe if you arent shit at managing your club and actually gets a team that can play good football...

I dont mind the groupstages, i dont need El Classicos in every game.

Because, according to a few members here, the likes of Barca/Madrid/Atletico giving up on like 50m off their TV deal to share with other clubs is damaging the league.
It is more vital that virally watched clubs like Barca get a bigger portion to sign the next Griezmann, than 17 other (I quote: ) "clubs, that noone cares about" get about 10m more every year to do boring shit like assemble a basic squad or avoid forced relegation through bankruptcy.

Can't believe what a mess Florentino made. Expected a much more elaborate plan. Probably didn't expect governments to intervene, but with such a nonexistent campaign, can't argue they didn't have it coming.

In the long run, Perez helped strengthen UEFA's position and gained them power to inflict changes on the game. The big clubs have been shown they can't opt out of the CL and start a new competition and thus lost their negotiating position. Wonder what direction UEFA takes next. Doubt it's much different.

Greatly lowers my estimation of Florentino's abilities as a President as well and his role in RM's recent CL success.

It's mostly about having the right players, which sometimes luck decides.

I think if they had not closed of the acces for the rest of the football world and made it a rich get richer plot they could have gotten away with it.
European league piramyd leveling the playing field somehow. Maybe then it could have worked. This leap was too big at once.
