Fernando Torres

Age old saying here guys: form is temporary, class is permanent.

All that is missing from his game is his old confidence. He has never been fully embraced at Chelsea, never had the players necessary around him for him to succeed and a lack of confidence can do wonders in hampering a player's game. It wasn't until they had creative midfielders like Mata and Hazard that his numbers started going up, plus the fact that he competed with Drogba, a player who's style of play fit perfectly for Chelsea (which is why they never should have bought Torres in the first place), for a majority of his time at Chelsea didn't make things any easier. Furthermore, he has La Liga experience and has played with half the team already with his time in the Spainish NT.

I think this is a much better fit than your guys realize and I could easily see him having a renaissance as a player here at Barca. He is 29 so we can expect 2-3 seasons of his top form, quite enough time for youngins like Dongou, Deulofeu etc. to develop enough to be ready for the first team. I blame his dip in form on Chelsea never understanding how to get the best out of him and him never being accepted by the fans due to his price. There was A LOT of pressure on his shoulders when he went to Chelsea and in some ways, he was always doomed to fail there.

I could see him and Dani Alves linking up very well next season and that way we have an actual #9 in the squad that can allow us to have more tactical options to play with. Again, his ability in the air is what I like in this move. I think a lot of you underestimate how many goals he scores from crosses coming into the box, exactly what we have been missing for ages. Plus 20 mil for a player who has scored in two consecutive Euro finals is a pretty damn good deal, regardless of his form for Chelsea.

If we keep Thiago, sign Inigo Martinez and get Torres, I think a lot of you will be pleasantly surprised how well we will do next season.

We can't just spend 20m and hope that he goes back to his old form. He most likely won't.

If you want a striker from Spain just get either Negredo or Soldado...both are better now and will be on less wages too.

I totally agree. I do watch Chelsea games and Torres, in form or not, is a very skillful and talented player. What I really like about him is that, over and above his ball control skills, is his physical might, tall and great header, fast and good at high speed ball control for fast breaks, which is something that our players do not acknowledge as part of the game; they rather stop and wait for the others defenders to come back.

Torrers is capable of complementing areas of our play that are incomplete right now and our Barca environment (pitch and locker rooom) will be different from that at Chelsea, which may bring back his old self confidence and goal scoring form.

Name a better ST we could by for 20 million or less, that is technically sound enough to fit into our style and as good in the air as Torres is?

I'm not bashing you by any means and this is a risky move but considering what's available in the market for what we need, Torres is a good fit. I don't even expect him to be as dynamic as he was in Liverpool bc he doesn't have to be. I just think with the creative talent he will have around him here, and playing in slightly less demanding league, he will have success here.

We need an impact sub, a player who can come on and make an impact in the 2nd half and I think Torres has all the necessary components to be that player for us, at least for his first season. Messi and Neymar will carry the load as being the go-to players for goals, anything Torres could contribute on top of that would just make things even better.

While I am skeptical that he will regain his top form that he had at Liverpool, I do believe however that he will have more success here than he had at Chelsea and based on his last season at Chelsea (particularly in Europa League), I could see why Tito wants him and how it could work out well.

In this day and age of P$G, City and Madrid completely inflating the prices of players, 20 mil really isn't that expensive in the grand scheme of things. Players like Lewa, Falcao and Cavani will all go for 45+. Again, I would much rather we lock down a new CB before Torres but this isn't a bad move here guys.

Neither of these player's technique is as good as Torres, plus both will want a solid starting spot. Not bad strikers by any means, but there are other teams that need those kind of strikers more than us, namely Arsenal

Dude one would wonder you describe here some Batistuta with your posts of Torres. He is anything but good striker, if he has all these amaizing attributes then why the hell he is so shit?

 I can't agree more. Torres was good, his good days are years ago. If this is the type of player Barcelona are going to sign, for 20M no less, then we might as well call it quit.

I have one question to ask everyone that is pro-Torres. Where the hell is he going to play...on the wing?! Move Messi out of the middle and use Torres as the "second option" some people have been fantasizing about for the past few years?!

I mean lol jesus christ I dont understand some people. Maybe for 10mil, even then I ask myself the question "why".

To be a plan B, as the forward in front of Messi. But god forbid this signing comes true.

First of all, let me make it clear; I don't advocate signing Torres or any pure number nine as a Plan B. With that being said... You guys really haven't watched him at all this season, at least based on the comments you're making. He's been isolated in the 4-2-3-1 Chelsea use, where despite Chelsea's strength on paper in midfield they have, for entire games, struggled to get him the ball, resulting in him being rendered completely useless. His touch isn't exactly sharp 100% of the time (and he does have those pure  moments as Galning pointed out) but the way you guys are talking about him it's like we're speaking about Ryan Shawcross. He hasn't horrendously missed too many chances this season (certainly not as many as Alexis), is still good in the air, links up well (especially with Spaniards), and has overall been beneficial to Chelsea. If we did have to sign a number 9 as a Plan B, Torres would be my first pick in the balance between affordability and effectiveness.

Negredo/Soldado are better in almost every way than Torres and will cost cheaper. I really don't understand these rumors? I really hope they are rumors or Tito has seriously lost his head...

Torres for 12 million is a good deal. Prefer Lewa anyday but it looks like we are serious about getting a pure number 9. That is great news imo because even Messi mentioned that he preferred a Number 9 playing in front of him. It frees him upand makes him more lethal.
