I have no problem with CR fans saying that he was crucial for their team, I have a problem with Cules saying that 'Messi didn't help Barca in a crucial moment'. Because seriously, that's just absurd.

And let us not play the 'if' game, football doesn't work that way.

I was referring specifically to the game against Bayern(full quote was "But he hasn't had his best year, or helped Barça during a crucial moment, the game against bayern, because he was injured"). Let's also not pick parts out of context of what was said, and twist them, to fit your point.

I do think Messi has been crucial this year, but that's not even the deciding factor. Flavia is right: Messi is the best ever, arguably at least, which is why he won it four times with a large majority of the votes, even thought it was others who won the titles (2010 and '12). This is also the reason why he probably will win again, not his form this year, no matter how good I think it was.

Messi hasn't had the greatest year by his standards, mainly due to his injuries, but he's still had a better year than anyone else. And he was as good as ever when he was fit. IMO, he'll win the Ballon d'or and deserves it. He probably won't win it as easily as he did in the last few years though.

I don't think Barça would lose or draw the game with milan, even if Messi hadn't scored so early. And some cr fan can make similar arguments about important goals he scored during that cl, against man utd and gala.
But that's just my opinion about this year, he really hasn't stand out like before.

That's not fair to say. Remember we had to score at least 3 goals (provided that Milan doesn't score) to recover the deficit from the 1st leg. If Messi hadn't scored early and again to make it 2:0 in the first half, we might have scored a late goal to win the game but still gotten eliminated.

That was by all means a decisive and crucial moment that he bailed us out on.

Messi was also playing on the loss at san siro. And he didn't help Barça on the crucial games against Bayern, as he was injured. He was dead weight on the game at munich, though that was Tito's fault, but Messi should have asked to be substituted earlier. Anyway, he played on sacrifice and is probably still having problems for it.

It seems you and others are not understanding what I'm trying to say since my first post about the bdor here. I wish messi wins it every year. But my guess is he won't this year because he had a subpar 2013 by his standarts. In the end it doesn't matter it was because of injuries, he did. Ronaldo had a better cl, but only because Messi struggled with injuries, what speaks volumes. I don't think ribery deserves it either, but he seems to be the player bayern chose and is campaining for. And I believe that might have a great effect this time, as Messi hadn't the same impact as he used to in previous years.

Key phrase. As I said, he was still better than anyone else.

Of the four Ballon d'Ors, Messi didn't deserve two and he doesn't deserve this one at all. Ribery or Robben earned it, fair and square.

u wot m8? this award goes to best player in the world not "the player that won CL" ....messi is best by miles for 5 years straight already so there are just media argumentations left

I don't think Ribery deserves to win it, but Messi's case is weakened by all his injuries this year. IMO it'll be CR, although there's absolutely no definite player who clearly has earned it over anyone else.

I hope Messi wins it... Despite Bayern's campaign for Ribery, people do remember the importance of Schweinsteiger, Lahm and Muller. Messi, with his reputation, should hopefully earn a vote unconditionally from most of the voters. And with the distribution of votes for different Bayern players, Messi does stand a slight chance.

I think, or I hope, CR7 is even further away from the award than Messi does... What with the Bayern's tremendous success, Messi's better stats even while injured and Real's subpar league run last season and a shaky start this time

If Messi doesn’t win this year, it’s not a tragedy, give him a break, he is only 26 and he has already won the ballon d’or 4 time in a row + 3 golden shoes.
I think Ribery will win.
CR has 0 chance to win.
