We're signing him and there's absolutely nothing those baguette merchants can do about it

I think that this transfer is being close to being finalized. Even more so after his agent visited the club office and had a meeting with the board less than 2 weeks ago. That's what my gut feeling is telling me. Frenkie clearly wants the move and another clue was his recent comment about Barcelona the city when he talked about his grandmother (if I recall) who lives near the Costa Brava. That was another giveaway to me. The club won't have much problem to match his wage demands. Maybe QSG and Man City will be willing to offer 10% or at most 20% higher wages but when we are talking about such large numbers and about such a wage increase compared to his current Ajax salary, it will have little bearing I imagine. Not to mention that he knows that if he performs well he will be ensured a higher wage in 2 or 3 seasons time (if not sooner). There are things that money can't buy. One of them is history. QSG and Man City are tiny clubs compared to Barça. Their only competition is money and in the case of Man City, Pep and somewhat of a sporting project.

There is also the actual city and environment (lifestyle) that you are going to live in for years. Here BCN is far, far ahead of Manchester (in particular) but likewise Paris.

Not to mention the obvious Ajax-Barça connection, the strong Dutch link, Busquets and Rakitic being almost 10 years older than de Jong and declining etc.

If I had to make a guess currently, I think it will be a question of when and not if de Jong turns into a Barça player. Let us hope so.

It's getting hot again. This transfer cannot and must not slip away. It's a match made in heaven. No if's here. Spoke with a few Ajax Amsterdam supporters the other day and they were firmly in agreement about his most ideal destination. Hint, it was not QSG. Hopefully the board will not mess this transfer up.

This is today’s podcast of the show that’s the source; El Club de la Mitjanit (Esport 3)

They start talking about de Jong around 26:50. Those who speak Catalan can help us out with a summary!

I cannot open the link otherwise I could help here.

Will try to look for the broadcast.

BTW El Club de la Mitjanit has had it's share (like any other media) of nonsense stories so it is not a given.

EDIT: My iTunes works again. They are talking about De Jong and his girlfriend (they have been together since they were 14 apparently) being on holidays in NYC, Jamaica and Florida. That negotiations between the club and his agent and De Jong are very advanced and that the deal could be finalized on the 12th of January and that the club and his agent and De Jong have already agreed personal terms.

The same source already wrote that De Jong was a priority 1 month ago.

Yeah, has the feel of something that is about to go down - I don't want to jink it but I am very excited about this acquisition. He is a generational talent IMHO and had to play for Barcelona. Even if he is likely to only arrive in summer this would still mean getting to see him show his quality against RM in CL as a cule in an Ajax shirt

Cruyff fundamentals are being restored brick by brick, he's a significant one

I don’t believe it. All reliable AJAX media says he will go to PSG. Probably just the club leaking information.

Could you provide some links, or are you still refering to the news that came out through De Telegraaf a week or so ago?

It doesn't take a genius to understand that Ajax as a club benefits from building competition for their players so the prices go up

so of course ajax media will try and make it clear that X player is close to signing for B club instead of A club etc etc
