Also, the main purpose why i posted this information was to put in perspective the perceived vision Barça are being cheap in their offers or targetting cheaper options.

As you highligted Devils, this wages bill is sustainable for Barcelona and they are not in any danger.
However, it can become difficult to stretch it any further which totally falls in place with the approach taken.

It is NOT sustainable. Regardless of how much revenues we generate this huge portion spent on salaries will eat into other needed expenses such as transfer budget and Espai Project etc.

The only relief (not that we are looking forward to it) would be several years later when Messi and others depart. The bottom line is we need to alter this approach of paying more than other elite clubs in terms of average salary. FC Barcelona should not be enticing players and talents using money alone.

I don't really see how those numbers prove your point (well, unless I didn't fully get your point, which is a possibility). The only comparable teams (in terms of level) among the ones you're mentioning in the Staff cost/Operating Revenue ratio are Bayern (51%), City (52%) and Juve (64%). Juve got the CR salary, so they're probably the best point of comparison, and they're still 17 points (!) behind Barca on that ratio. Even with the other wordlwide superstar to pay. 17% of Barca's revenue, according to the numbers you've posted, are roughly 120 million euros. So yeah, without Messi's salary, Barca's ratio will fall (but Messi should be replaced, probably with a player whose salary won't be cheap), and drop to something like 70%. This will still be 15-20 points above the other teams of similar standing in Europe apparently (Juve's ratio, without CR, will probably drop below the 60%).

That doesn't erase the fact that the club is doing very well, thanks to its high revenues, as you pointed out. But it still means that Barca is paying its players a lot more than other big teams in Europe.

It goes back to my original points that this 81% is temporary and will decrease in the near future and the club knows this.

I never said that Barca WOULDN'T be a top salary provider in Europe. It's clear the club will be. But unlike people on here who believe that this is crippling to the club, I believe that Barca incentives to offer such high salaries as means of attracting players over their competition...I don't think Barca will ever NOT be among the top 5 highest salary providers in Europe, nor do I think the clubs wants to be.

People on here are talking as if our operations are UNSUSTAINABLE that our wage bill is leaving us in financial turmoil.

This is COMPLETELY false now and will be completely false in the future when our wages structure relaxes (eventhough we will still be a top salary provider in Europe)

‏ [gerardromero] | Barça has reached an agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Frenkie De Jong for 75 million euros!
The agreement will be announced tomorrow or Thursday
The contract will be signed next week
Bet that Barcatimes account fell for that Gerard Romoro parody account.

It will decrease, but it will still be well above any other top team in Europe. Even without that big fat Messi salary: spending 70% of your revenue on wages is OK if your players are clearly much better than the ones playing for other teams, because you're paying for quality. But I don't really think it's the case right now in Barcelona (even less so when you take Messi out of the equation).

I don't think people really think that these high salaries are "crippling". But they're saying that these never ending raises have to stop at some point, for several reasons:
- As mentioned, overpaying players is ok when you're paying for higher quality. Not the case with the current squad imho (not saying it's a bad squad though, just that it's not comparitively well above the other top teams in Europe);
- Those 81% have been sustainable so far because Barca got results to back it up, and because people will come to the stadium to see the team win games/titles. If the team stops winning and the revenue drops, it will become dangerous to have a squad of overpaid players.
- How are you going to sell players you don't want anymore when they have a salary no one else can/will afford ? Sure, you can always hope that PSG will get them (doubtful though), or that some random chinese team will be willing to offer them a crazy amount of money. But if that's not the case, you're left with a player who's not good enough for the team, and whose salary is too expensive for any other club in Europe. So unless the player's willing to get paid less somewhere else (and football players are known to love lowering their salaries of course), you're fucked.

Is it a critical situation ? No. But should it be ignored ? No.

Why are the player salaries at Barca so much higher than at other clubs who have as good or even better squads? It isn't that Barca is a small club with little history like PSG or Manchester City that needs to offer higher salaries to convince the players to join the club.

Not just Messi. Suarez, Busi, Rakitic, Pique too.

I disagree with you that it will be well above any top team in Europe. It might be well above now, but it wont be that much higher once the players I mentioned leave, most will in the next 3-4 years.

It's impossible to predict the situation of all teams in Europe, but it's not very hard to see that Barca's salaries will relax after Messi goes.

Anyways about your non-stop increases. Barcelona hasn't been putting the new player's they've signed in recent times absurdly high wages aside from Coutinho and Dembele, who albeit were purchased in panic and urgency after the unexpected leaving of Neymar.

You don't think Barca will offer players higher wages to convince them to play for Barcelona after Messi leaves?

They cannot even convince players to take lesser wages to play for Barca and with Messi right now.

I mean just look at the wages of Dembele and Coutinho , that doesn't look like a team that will relax when it comes to wages after Messi retires.

What are you basing your question on? Relative to the rest of Europe or the current Barca wages? (mostly occupied by Messi, Saurez, Busi, Raktic, Coutinho, Pique)

I think we will still be higher than most of the top teams in Europe. But in total will be significantly smaller than the accumulation of the wages presented by the players above.

The question is why did the salaries of those players with the exceptions of Messi get so high in first place?
Busquets, Pique and Rakitic are currently more of a liability for the team than an asset. Meanwhile Alba's contract extension negotiations have been going for a while, and that's probably because he is asking for a similar salary to the ones of Busquets and Pique and deservedly so, he has been the second most consistent player in the team only behind Messi and next summer he will have only one year left in his contract.
