What is our reference point here are we talking about actually performances on the pitch over the past 2-3 years are potential/talent.

Because if it's performance, then city alone has 2/3 midfielders than have been better than him over that time period.

If Laporta ended up saying this exact BS to Frenkie De Jong, I wouldn't doubt one minute that Frenkie would immediately request a transfer. The dude is 24 and the players you cited are 17/18 years old. Once they become good enough (let's assume that happens, lol) to be regular contenders amongst the elite midfields in Europe, Frenkie would be about 30 years old lol.

The future of the midfield lies in Frenkie, and the transfer decisions Laporta will make within the next several windows. Not on 17 year olds. lol
