He hasnt played DM in first team and Nico was probably better before Xavi took over anyway when could get up and down park.

Xavi wants FDJ and Nico to play as AM and get into the box. That is not his game even if got a couple goals. Like FDJ he needs more room and freedom to get up and down park.

Perhaps he would suit the DM more and sitting or.., FDJ and Nico in double pivot which offers more energy, more options for defence to pass out and more protection.

yeah it would be better to have De Jong act as a 3rd CB that links to the midfield and carrys the ball forward with Nico/Gavi and Pedri ahead of him controlling the midfield
