Remember he is still very young.

If a player has technique and talent at 18, which Gai has, then with expeirnce and guidence he can become a good player. Comparing every player who is a good dribbler to Messi does not help. Messi is a one off, the type of player where you think he should be 28. I dont believe Gai will be as good as Leo but anywhere near tbh but he can still become a good player who has something to offer.

Honestly, i think this guy is overhyped so much, people think he will perform awesome when he gets the chance but he hardly ever does
I agree. I haven't seen him do anything special yet. He's not a second Messi, not even another Quaresma IMO.

oh come one! Seriously?

There's a reason why he's playing for his national at the age of 16. He's a good prospect and has the right ingredients to become a good player. All he needs is time and experience. Just because he played average in preseason doesn't mean he's going to be worse then Quaresma. Look at Ronaldo. Where was he when he was 16? no where and he's turned out to become on of the best player in the world.

Where was Henry? Totti? Keane? Not every 18 year old is on the bench for their clubs. Some players mature later on and take a bit extra to learn how to use their talent to good effect. If by 20-22 year old he's struggling, then you can say he's never gonna make it.

Gai is trying to break into the best team on Earth and at 18 unless he is one of the best already it ain't going to happen.

Does every 18 year old turn out to be like a Messi? No. Where did you get that from?

Messi is a one off. He has talent which only a hand ful of players can get close to. Don't compare every player who is a good dribbler to Messi.

People are calling him the next Messi. These people have to wake up.

I'm not saying I expect every one of our canteranos to be another Messi. Others, however, are calling every Barca canterano the next Maradonna.

Yeah, i dont know these people but they are very blind. However it's very easy to get carried away when we are in a time where our cantera is amazing.

People calling him the next Messi - it's not as if they'd be right, or even close to being right. It's actually rather sickening how media builds up hype about certain players simply for some similarities they share with their superiors. Week in week out you get to hear, or read, somebody being called the next Zidane, the next Henry, the next Torres.

What's even worse is that most of the football fans out there buy that crap and start using similar wording when describing those players. Although, I can't really blame them. They're being fed with these stories from all angles and sides, therefore it's easy to accept those things. What's even worse is that it sets an enormous pressure on young players to live up to picture being painted of them. I'm not saying this is only Gai's case as there is a whole ocean of examples out there. Bojan comes to mind as well. Those kids are what - 18?! Where do you think most of the players were at that age?

Let these younger players develop at their own pace, be patient and see what will turn out. It's extremely harsh to call somebody off at such an age because it simply shows the lack of understanding of the whole idea of player's growth. Who knows, maybe they will turn out into something extraordinary and brilliant, or then again they might not turn out to be anything. Give it time and be patient. It seems that these days most of the people crave fast and immediate results instead of giving different projects more time.

Those claiming young players to become the next [insert a name of a world-star] should get a f*cking grip.

Just my 2 cents

The Sun isn't one of the most reliable sources out there, but just as a precaution: Arsenal can f*ck the right off.

I always point to the example of Iniesta. He was brought into the side slowly, and didn't become a regular in the side until he was into his twenties. Now look at him. Not all players are able to slot straight in like Messi, he's a one off. Most others need time and experience to develop.

Already one promising player (Gio)'s career was essentially ruined by being hyped as the "Mexican Messi" and not allowed to develop at his own pace. I don't think it was bad for his career to move to a new club, but I'm not sure if Spurs was the right choice.

We really need to stop expecting 18 year olds to automatically be superstars. It's already potentially hurting Bojan even if he's coming off a good game. If you look at the majority of the club's players most were at least 20 before they broke out, even those who were getting attention at a younger age (Xavi and Puyol for us, Alves for Sevilla) were role players for their first few seasons without major demands.
