Gareth Bale

Great deal if Bale is the new Ronaldo starting this year, and sells ton and ton of merchandisings based on its name for years to come.

If not, then, fraud of the century.

Shirt sales etc are incredibly overrated. I know, they say Ronaldo's transfer fee was paid of by shirt sales but that's just a complete lie.

So yes, you could call it fraud of the century.

By the way, are they gonna bench Isco now? Özil? Di Maria? Let's face it, Bale won't be on the bench with a fee that big.

If you take shirt sales too literally then you are probably right.

But I would bet that Ronaldo in terms of merchandise, increased fan base, increased team performance in CL etc will have gone a long way towards paying back a big chunk of his own fee. Even smaller things like demanding higher fees for Real to play in Asia/America etc.

Sure, of course he brought in a lot of money, especially when it comes to performances. However, when it comes to tournaments (in Asia/America) and other similar stuff it's hard to really tell if it's because of Ronaldo. The way I see it, it's almost impossible to link Ronaldo with that.

Anyway, is Bale really that iconic? :/

Not as iconic as how Ronaldo was when he transfered to RM.

Bale will leave a bitter taste in PL if not plain hate from some former fans (and i know some). Totally different from Ronaldo.

When will this transfer finally be completed so all the hype stops. Oh yeah i forgot, i just can't know what will be said if this guy doesn't perform. With a so huge price the demands are so big that he needs to bring world class performances so often for everybody to be satisfied...That's what prices make if one player is not worthy of this fee, nobody will ever be satisfied.

I'm sure people thought the exact same things when Ronaldo transfered.

But Ronaldo lived up to the hype and to its price. So it can happen.

I'm just not sure Bale can do the same. And I'm a Bale fan for more than straight two years.

They spend so many money because he had a great season and obviously because he is similar player to him they imagine him as a player who will reach the same level as Ronaldo, but it's a crazy risk. Before last season he just had simply good seasons, nothing more than that. Now the excuse is that he carried Tottenham all the way through the season and as i said already above just because he's a player similar to him they assume it that he will be on the same level, nothing sure. But i just can't believe how much they overrate him, just because of one season and similar style to their star player? That's crazy.

Not to mention already that both of them can't be in the same team at the same time. Obviously because they are similar players, they want to be the core of the team. The ones that shoot that have the ball all the time, the free kicks, the penalties. Im sure both of them will be more selfish, Bale to get all eyes on him and Ronaldo just to show who's the one and only in the team. Im sure they could even destroy a team plan just to make theirselves look good. For me, Perez cares more about individual quality, thats the reason of bringing Bale. But it's not worthy of destroying the team just to give individual entertainment...

Bale better adapt to RM and Ronaldo, that's the only advice he can get. He will have to defend, track back, cut his shots by half - in short, make some sacrifices, because we all know Ronaldo won't do it. And he shouldn't, not for this 100 mil copy. I like him as a player and he seems like a genuinely nice guy, but he's nowhere near Ronaldo.

I think hes well aware of that. He wanted to be in Real so much, and by his opinion Ronaldo is the best player in the world, so I dont think he will start a war and try to claim throne for himslef.

IMO hes aware that his time will come and is ready to wait.

This deal has FM 13 written all over it. Sometimes in FM 13, when I want a player really badly, I end up paying ridiculous amounts just because I have this sort of fixation for the player, and for the thought of him playing in my team. This deal feels just like that, a fixation from Madrid and particularly the president. Difference being it's for real. Gawd. Unbelievable.

Just why do they feel the need to sign Bale? If they want a poor man's Ronaldo they should wait a few more years and pay less money. Pérez is a complete joke. Wouldn't surprise me if I hear bullshit about him bringing in a lot of money on shirt sales.

Like I said, deal of the century for Spurs.

LOL Levy will never stop laughing after this deal and Perez will never stop crying. This is Lunacy!! Shirt sales are simply not that big a factor in regards to bringing in money. Bale is also better suited to a counter attacking style. Now Ancelotti will have a major headache fitting Bale into the side.
