The other thing he said is, "I'm not qualified to talk about new players, but I'm very happy with the players the team already has", which sounds like a subtle implication that he thinks Bale is not needed. It's not a big deal as such really, just really strange compared with the usual "he's a great player and would be welcome here". I wouldn't be surprised if he left next year.
