he is brilliant, but he was in Rafael da Silva's back pocket at the weekend, so let's not go nuts.

Sanity is restored...until the next time Bale scores

Sounds harsh on the player to say his best attributes are pace, strength & his left leg but when have you ever heard of him as a standout LB - defensively? View attachment 2630

And, Pajo, you can rave on all you like about how YOU somehow unearthed this gem of a player but you also rubbished the quality of Özil

All things being equal, I'd take Coentrão

i admited michael that i was wrong about Ozil :p

i did watch few of his games in bremen, but he was definitelly nothing special. I guess i watched only those games where he was mediocre. I thought he would fail in madrid, but i was wrong, and i take everything i said back...

Just saw the highlights from the Inter match

Holy frijoles, Bale clowned Inter...over two legs...I mean, how can you push that high up with him on that left side like that?...All he was doing was kicking that ball ahead like an adult playing with kids and would simply outrun them to the ball...Kid has an impressive 6th gear...I saw on the last counter Samuel started to attempt to close him down but then reality quickly set in and he tracked back to the center to try and mark Pavluychenko - you could see Samuel flying down there but realized he wasn't going to be able to get there in time...Kid has great speed

But Bale rarely gets that kind of space in the Premiership I'm sure

Me too. Rafael and Phillip Neville had him in their pockets. Maicon as we know is not much of a defensive fullback.

Coentrao is improvng his defensive game and is the real attacking left wing back. Bale is more of a outside left/ left winger.

And you know how the press love to hype players here in England even though he is Welsh. And he is one footed.

I'd take Ansaldi who is comfortable off either foot. ;)

One other thing I do like about the player is how level headed he comes off...He's young so perhaps that is part of it but he seems like a modest fellow

Hes not a LB, that much is obvious.

Hes never been a standout LB, but when payed as a winger he most certainly is standing out.

I watched a bit of the match before I went to work,
Bale and Coruchy owned Inter!

LOL what crouch he was shit and got a tap after missing a good few chances. sorry bale was good but crouch was shit mate no two ways about, theres a reason spurs fans hate him, becuase he misses sitters and one knock early on in the match his done for you wont seem for the whole 90 mins.

hy-pe!

Yup way too much hype, i was just shocked how he knocked the ball 50 yards and chased it which led for the third goal. In the premier league he wishes he gets that much space, and also inter midfielders were wank and didnt offer any cover considering there supposed to be holding midfielders. Add motta and cambiasso or stankovic bale and tottenham would not have won like that, sneijder would have got the ball in the attacking third rather than his own half. Plus maicon might be going down the route of the old brazilain trend, once they lose the passion there done for.

All hail Bale!

Bale would upgrade any team. The speed, the crosses, he knows when to shoot, and he shoots well. Comments like "he only has a left foot", of "he is not really a left back", come on, just put him on the field and your team is going to score a lot more. The guy is devastating, that is Inter he just slaughtered!

Exactly. He isn't a left back, he can play there but it isn't his preferred position. He's a left winger, his performances reflect that. It is for that reason that if we were looking for someone to play on our left side of attack, i'd have him, but i'd never buy him for left back. But he hasn't excelled against teams that afford him less space yet, and tbh I wouldn't buy him for the money we'd have to pay. All that talk of 25-30m for him is a joke, he'd cost ALOT more than that currently as Spurs have no need at all to sell. So he is out of our price range.

I think he is quite underrated on here though. He is more than just pace, he's actually got a lot of skill as well, and can deliver ridiculously good crosses. He didn't just beat Maicon for pace, he beat him pretty much all round, in skill and everything. Not saying he is world class or anything like the English media claim, but he is definitely much better than people on here would claim. But then I suppose if he had a Spanish/Brazilian/Argentinian/Portuguese name people would rate him higher, not just on here, but its just how things are. He has all the attributes to be one of the best players in the world if he keeps improving at the rate he is, and he has the right temperament to boot.

I think it helps when facing a defender like Maicon that not only does Bale possess speed but his strength is better than Maicon's, as well...You could see that Maicon simply didn't have a clue how to defend him
