Gerard Deulofeu

You know part of the difference, and this comes from the hype, is that Tello was relatively unheralded like Pedro, Cuenca et al...They put their head down and worked...Players like Bojan & Deulofeu came in with years of hype as the next big star out of the cantera, Dongou will have similar weight/significance attached to his promotion...But the Bojan comparison is apropos because I'm not sure if there have been cantera kids as hyped as these two...Expectations are tremendous, for years really

Bojan had perhaps the better mentality for working within the squad but obviously lacks the cajones or confidence Deulofeu does...By contrast, we will need to see if he works well within the team where he isn't the focal point - something he has been accustomed to at every level he's played, even for the NT

You can't really use the inexperience as an excuse, he's been a starter in a professional second division side (against plenty of clubs who were performing in la Primera just a season or two ago) for two seasons now.

He's just... he doesn't seems to have the brains to go along with his talent, I'm sorry to say. Someone like, say, Tello, will avoid making the same mistake twice. I suspect it will take a long, long time for Deulo to grow out of his need to show off.

He turned 19 exactly a month ago. You can absolutely use it as an explanation, Especially when his team's tactics are give the ball to Deulo and Rafinha and lets if they can drive us forward. Why would you think that someone playing that way for two years under a coach lacking personality would just magically play the opposite way after a couple training sessions with the first team and a twenty minute cameo? A lot of Barca fans are fans of the idea of youth development but not the actual growing pains that comes along with it. Tello learned by having messi shout at him in different matches so lets not act like its something innate in Tello. Many were even saying he didnt have a future at the club because he didnt flow like Cuenca within the team game. Its very typical. Go back to when Thiago was being left in the B team and Jonathan was getting starts in matches like Villarreal. There were people saying Thiago was too flashy and steady solid Jonathan was the dark horse. One player being more ready at a particular time doesn't men it will always be so, and it can change very quickly.

I mean we all know he's heading to the first team, it's inevitable but he's not the salvation some here think he will be from the start...He will need time, he will have his moments where he will shine and others where he will disappoint...We'll just have to see if he's a hard worker to translate youth success to 1st team success
I think Gerard is a hard working kid ,he has drastically improved this year in comparison to last season ,I think he will be good next year but will take the next step in the season after
No player is gonna be the salvation in his first season in a team like Barca anyway ,but he can be very good player for us who might end up being starter at some point of the year

Don't think Dongue is really hyped tbh ,specially with his age being close to Deulofeu

Highly unlikely he will be a starter for Barcelona at some point in his first season with the first team...Even more ready youth team players (Including Messi) didn't accomplish that in their first season...Particularly since he has yet to play very well in one first team appearance...You're giving him far too much credit, including the assessment that he is a hard worker...If he were a hard worker, I'd wager we would've heard less from Pep, Tito & Eusebio calling the player out for just that...He's been better in that regard in the past season but one season doesn't make you a hard worker...If he had Pedro workrate, this would be a different conversation

Dongou, who is a year younger with far less B team experience than Deulofeu, has only recently been promoted to the B team has barely played...But otherwise, he has absolutely been hyped outside of Graham Hunter's comments...The single biggest story in NextGen last season was Jean Marie Dongou

I didn't mean regular starter ,But something like what Tello and Cuenca did last year might be possible for Deulofeu next season
As for Dongou ,I don't know but I feel he doesn't get half the media coverage and hype as Gerard ,specially with the fact that he isn't Spanish which will decrease the media hype there
I think may be barca fans like us who follow the youth team might get his hype but it isn't worldwide like Deulofeu may be I am wrong though

There's almost a deal on the contract renewal of Barcelona B winger Gerard Deulofeu (19). The club has offered him to renew until 2018. [md]

I missed this earlier. Promoted next season?, might be more beneficial if he spent another season with the 'B' team, looking at a promotion to the first team the season after next.

For god sake when will people stop suggesting he needs another season in 2nd division? he has no business staying there , one more season in a league he is dominating with a bad coach won't help him ,and the club and the player has an agreement of him joining the 1st team next year ,that was from his last contract anyway

Deulofeu has long been touted as a future star in la masia so the hype has accumulated throughout the years. Dongou has only been hyped recently (especially from Graham Hunters comments) but I don't think he's fully lived up to it yet. I find Sandro to be better than him, but that's my opinion.

How about we wait until he's had a succession of games with the full squad before full judgment is made. Tello has made great leaps since last year and is still young and improving. When Gerard got the ball wide against Mallorca I can't remember one time where there was an option for him in the box. At that point the game had died down and everyone was conserving energy. Ok his tricks didn't come off but he at least shows a directness that will create space for others. The amount of times the ball goes to a Barcelona winger when he should go at the full back but cuts back inside and passes has been far too much the last two years and I think Gerard could solve this if he continues to improve. I don't think many people at this point last year would have predicted Tello's improvement or Gerard being the top scorer in division 2. Making such quick judgements after a 25 minute cameo is unfair on the kid.

Well, that's an important distinction then - I can't see him being a starting fixture in the near future...Of course, a lot depends on what happens with Villa, Sanchez & Neymar too

As for hype on cantera players, I always point to what club fans know not what the press gets enamoured with...Obviously, fans know which cantera players are doing well not fans from other clubs or most pundits...Of course, Deulofeu is an immense talent in the cantera and has been written & speculated about for years but just like Deulofeu & Leo who were moved around a lot at different age groups, Dongou went through the same so I absolutely believe Dongou is not only hyped but the club has tremendous expectations for the player...And, frankly, rightly so IMHO

Too many comparisons made between the two players at the expense of the other in some bizarre attempt to elevate one over the other...They are different characters and players but both have a lot of promise...Deulofeu is merely ahead in the La Masia queue...for now...If Lee Seung Woo's issues get sorted, he won't be too far behind either

More surprising is his club salary, €60,000 euros a year. I suppose it's a way of keeping the player grounded. A player of equal ability and age in the English Premier, his salary would be far in advance of that of Deulofeu. Am I right in thinking, that when Bellerin and Toral went from Barcelona to Arsenal, they went from earning €5k a month to earning €8k a week?
