Ronaldo was worse at what?

Ronaldo at 19 was a better and more complete player than Delofeu by a long way.

At running into dead alleys, overdribbling and overdoing stepovers. I've never lost a word about who the better player was. I don't remember Ronaldo back in 04/05 THAT well. Although I remember a SAF quote where he said that fans wanted Ronaldo benched in his early United career for not scoring enough goals (5 goals in 33 games in his SECOND Premier League season at age 20, so he can't have been that much better than Deulofeu).

He looks like a douche and does stepovers. So people automatically think his game is selfish. In reality this is happening: He has immense natural talent. The close control he possesses at high speed is very rare. While someone like Tello kicks the ball 5 yards infront of himself towards the goalline and tries to run after it faster than the defender (those type of players get figured out rather quickly by the way), Deulofeu has the ability to maneuver through tighter spaces. He's not a support player in the mould of Pedro or Sanchez who passes the ball back to the midfielders, "works hard" and poaches some goals here and there. He's the type of player who can make things happen on his own. Given his age, he's of course overdoing it often with the dribbling, running into 1 defender too many or holding onto the ball for too long. But that's his decision making which isn't developed yet to elite standards rather than him not wanting to pass the ball to better positioned teammates through sheer selfishness (his assist count should be at double figures if I'm not mistaken). If you are young and can dribble and fool and beat defenders, you dribble and overdribble. And that's completely okay for a 19 year old tricky winger. Cristiano Ronaldo was far worse at that age for example.

If you regularly see Barcelona B play, you know how infuriating Deulofeu's playing style can be. Cristiano Ronaldo was more mature in Deulofeu's age. Nevertheless, our wingers and especially Alexis hasn't dribbled an opponent for about 666 months, so Deulofeu will be a refreshing change.

At 19 Ronaldo was representing Portugal at Euro 2004 , was named in team of the tournament and got into Uefa team of the year. He was also voted by FifaPro the best young player in the world.

He was far ahead of what Delofeu is now.

They're shooting for the 100 pts

Home vs Real Valladolid
Away to Asspanyol
Home vs Malaga

Certainly doable but Asspanyol & Malaga will take more than just playing anyone...I do agree it'd be smart to play Deulofeu since Leo is out but same could be said for players like Tello, Villa & Cesc who have had to sit a lot these past few months

Cesc has played a lot despite his poor form so I'd say he should be sitting more or playing in midfield if necessary

Even Villa has gotten his fair share of chances and he hasn't proven much but he should play at least 1 or 2 of the remaining games.

Tello I agree should be playing each one

As for the Cristiano-Deulofeu argument, Cristiano was obviously the better player due to more exposure at top level but much more flawed than Deulo would be had he been playing in the top flight at 19.

Ronaldo was a FAR more selfish player with horrible decision making and often got dispossessed. His style was (still is to some extent) try, try, and try until you finally get it right. When he did get it right, people would applaud him for that brilliance yet overlook the 20 previous dribbles he failed or the 5 shots he skied over the bar instead of passing.

Deulofeu is selfish at times and has that repetitive dribbling habit (not as bad as Ronaldo) but is much more efficient with the scoring chances he gets. He has 18 goals in Segunda but not even top 10 in the list of amount of shots taken. His finishing is sublime and he knows exactly when and how to approach an attack. Not to mention the fact that his instinctive dribbling skills are outstanding and he's insanely fast.

From fcbarcelona.com:
The Club and Deulo have agreed to terms to extend the contract through June 30 of 2017. His buy-out clause will be set at 35 million euros.
The player will sign his new contract on Wednesday at 18.00.

I wonder what the term is... Could it be a promise to promote Deulo?

It's pretty much confirmed that he'll be promoted, I think they're just saving the announcement for when they decide how many of the other players will be promoted too (Roberto, Muniesa, Rafinha) or whether the others will be sent out on loan.

Totally disagree with that.

Ronaldo was greedy and selfish at that age but not to the extent that Delofeu is at a far, far lower level.

The selish side of Delofeus game has stopped him progressing to the first team before now. While Ronaldo was already up there as one of his countries top players and best young players in the world.

Honestly, that's a tad ridiculous. Deulo started this season at 18 and only turned 19 in march. You have to compare it to the 2003-04 season if you are looking for a comparison and Cristiano was just as frustrating at 18.

Deulito needs to improve his decision making. Playing minutes and training regularly with the 1st team next season will solve this problem.
Starting from season 2014/15, he'll shine big time!

Not really, at roughly the age Delofeu is now Ronaldo was one of the best players at an intl tournament.

He had many flaws but was a far better all round player than Delofeu is now, playing at a completely different level.

The bias on here sways some peoples judgement on players beyond belief.

Sport speculate he might go on loan next year, I'm torn on this. Starting games at a club which plays good football would be good for his development. Being away from home can help you grow as a person as well. On the other hand Id like him to stay and learn from the best players in world. If only Neymar wasnt in the equation everything would be clearer.

Blaming Neymar?

If Neymar doesnt sign and Duelofeu takes his place the team will be hugely weaker.

If Delofeu is good enough he will get in ahead of Pedro, Tello, Villa or Sanchez.

Neymar will be far and away the best wide player at the club if he signs, why on earth would that be his fault for keeping out Deulofeu?

I dont know why you are talking about bias. I never mentioned anything about being a better player. I simply disputed that Cristiano was much less selfish at 18. But of course that means Im biased . If I say he dived more at that age, that's obviously bias too. I also think his hairstyle was worse. Revoke my objectivity card.

If he really is promoted, going on loan would be great for him. Smart decision, as he needs minutes. Staying with the 1st team he'd only see the bench. Just needs to go to right team.
