Well each to his own as you say, but I was a Puyol fan from early on, he played with the same intensity back then as he does now. And I don't agree that he was mediocre, after all he was elected best newcomer in la liga 2000-01, and was elected the best rightback in la liga for the 2001-02 season, he was also elected best righback in Europe 2001-02 and 2002-03 by the journalists working for ESM (La Gazzetta dello Sport, Onze Mondial , World Soccer, Kicker etc.). He was also voted into the UEFA Team of the Year 2002.

I guess my perception of him as mediocre must stem from the very early stages of his first team career then. That, or I was blind back then.

2002-03, but he played mostly as rightback that season. 2003-04 was his first season as regular central defense.

And it's not like Deulofeu hasn't been the object of poaching for years already, he's rebuffed them until now...no reason to believe things change now

I doubt he will go but the club and the fans fear the possibility of him leaving now more than ever because he's on the brink of the first team which is a HUGE transition. I'm pretty sure thats why the rumours are getting out of hand. The contract thing is just an excuse.

If he truly loves Barca, He'll have no problem waiting for his chance and certainly wouldn't care about bigger offers.
But If he leaves then it'll be obvious he's the kind of player that is looking for magazines headlines, sports car and hot models, Then adios, I certainly won't miss him.

Not sure the club fears anything let alone how any of us could even speculate how they view his situation...If anything, after years of having dealt with the player as well as many others they likely have a good pulse of the situation

Moreover, history has shown that players that fly the proverbial coop end up regretting it or see their careers squandered...and the big variable for me is a player who wants to be here...If Deulofeu wants to go, the exit is available
