You should drink simple carbs only during and straight after training and get it from something like powerade which is not carbonated. Coke also has other crap which isn't good for the players.

Nothing against it, I drink it all the time but I'm not a pro athlete.

The FA website that advises on diet encourages the intake of 'simple carbohydrates' after a game and list soft drinks such as coca cola as one way to get these.

Yeah. If you read my post I explained why you should get them from something else.

Maybe all the sugar in the coke will make them hyper an give them lots of energy to close down opposition in last 2 games

Doesn't matter if it's coke, dextrose, maltodextrine or table sugar. They drink carbs to replenish glycogen but mostly to not go hypo from the insulin they take ;).
In before someone believes footballer's don't use PEDs. Everyone is at least on growth hormone, small doses of insulin post workout and no ester testosterone.

Yeah right. So much for the conspiracy theories.

This isn't a conspiracy mate, there isn't a single top level sports man who doesn't use drugs. You have to be very naive to think that with that much money at stake they wouldn't put all chances on their side.

Back to Martino...............

He wanted to sign ALOT of players but the board didn't come through for him....

Whose fault is that?

Should he have

a) Gone to the press and raised a stink?

b)Thrown his toys out of the pram and quit?

c)???

He still had team of world stars and lost games to teams with 1/10 of Barca's budget. He was not prepared to deal with complexity of Barca and failed. He had his share of blame along with the board.
