It was coping pretty well at the start with Valdez in GOAT form and Pique having less brain farts we were the team to concede least in whole of Europe after Atleti

Yeah Cesc, Messi, Neymar,Alexis suck at counter attacks. Oh wait its only your dear Xavi....
We haven't lost by a LARGE margin this year. We got blasted by Bayern last year and conceded many goals against weaker opposition too. The fact that Messi was in God like form and RM self destruced were the main 2 reasons for winning the league title.
Also our counter attacking football was very good in the first half of the season and our defence was much better too.
I agree with another poster. If Xavi or any other player had argued with it Tata should have given them and the board the finger and walked off. If our second half of the season had been even 75% of the first half we would have won the league by now, the CDR and probably a CL SF or final would have been done too.
Alexis tripped over his own feet the last time we had a counter attack. Neither of Iniesta, Xavi and Busquets are suited to counter attacking football.
I can't believe people want us to give up our style of play for that. Tata tried it in the beginning of the season and it was awful and utterly boring. I turned off my TV for the first time in several years when Barça was playing and I fell asleep in the return leg against Atlético.
The return leg vs Atletico was when we were playing extremely stale possession football. If we don't add variety to our tactics then we will waste Messi's best years and won't win the Champions League again for at least 5 more years.
Adding variety is something different from completely overthrowing our principles
Well, Rijkaard kept our principles AND added various elements of PHYSCIALITY and counter attacking. We will never really know what Tata could have achieved because he wasn't supported by the players, press, fans and the board. Its no wonder he wanted to leave as early as Jan. He wanted players as the leaked document shows but didn't get any. He wanted tactical evolution but the senior players were against it or overdid it at times. He also had to deal with a very small squad, very small players (size wise)and NUMEROUS injuries.
A situation like this would have tested the best, forget someone who is new to Europe. Throughout this whole saga he has handled himself with dignity and never scapegoated the board or players. He has been honest and admitted his failings.
With Lucho we will be back to passing the ball a million times backways and sideways. We need a more physical midfield. A proper, strong box to box player is required. Xavi, Iniesta and Cesc don't score enough goals and don't put a proper defensive shift in either. For me the only untouchable in midfield is Busquets.
Yes, too many times VV was motm and saved the 3 points for Barça. A clear sign that what Sunyol said is accurate.
Valdes immense form this season masked a lot of the defensive problems.
