Gerardo "Tata" Martino

So, a losing season at Barca gets him the Argentina job..

Well in this case it's how you characterize a losing season. We were virtually mere inches away from winning the league on the final day, a goal away from going past Athletico, and falling at the final hurdle against Madrid. When you of course factor in everything that occurred off the field, Tata deserves lots of credit.

We currently have ex Madrid player as manager :lucho: who was total flop at Roma. Crazier things have happened.

Wasn't really a total flop in Roma to be fair. Was trying to change the system totally and didn't do worse than what Roma did the season before he came. Atleast in Barcelona the fundamental is already set.

In Lucho we trust!

Credit for destroying the team.

Credit for destroying the team.

It needed to be destroyed, at least some parts. And yes, he didn't build it, but again, in those circumstances I think he did reasonable job. Looking back, it could have been much much worse (poor excuse, i know, but still).

Tata was inches away from the league title and the Champion's League final. Really, man, have some perspective. Lucho will be glad if he does that well this year, especially with all the changes and the unknowns.

Tata has a good philosophy, perfect for teams such as Argentina, Chile, Mexico,... who must leverage their ball playing skills to overcome their speed/size deficits.

He was inches away because he gave up too soon. He was bad for Barça. Let players too free, no discipline. I hope he does much better for Argentina, but I'm really not happy with his appointment.

He was not inches away from the CL final. The league yes, but in the CL we went out in the quarters with a quite disappointing performance in the 2nd leg vs Atletico.

Being inches away from winning the league wasn't thanks to Tata Martino, let that be clear. Players even came out weeks before the end saying they've lost already  Then again, it looked like Martino himself already wanted to leave in January so that's not a surprise. I'm glad he's gone, absolutely terrible year.

Exactly. Tata completely neglected the physical training of our players after January. That we came close is more a testament to the ability of our superstars than to Tata's success as a coach here.
