Worked for Paraguay. WC QF(Could've been Semi with a bit more luck) and Copa America Runners-Up. Now the style of play with Paraguay was boring as hell and all that, but Argentina's players, squad is a completely different thing.

Wow. What a master class that he did against spain.

If only his strikers had balls that game they would have won.

Gave Spain their toughest game of that WC.. really had them by the balls till late

I liked what I saw in the first half against Portugal. Mascherano + Biglia (I'm starting to really like this guy) bossed the midfield and that right back was good (in both directions). Higuain was a bit uninvolved and CBs didn't impress at rare Portugal counters.

Didn't watch the second half. :messi:

Agreed with much of it.

Biglia, has grown in his NT role. He's the balancing act between attack and defense. Level headed, physical but also technically adept.

For Tata's all-attack approach, Ansaldi is a much better fit than Rojo. If he can settle down his nerves (which was evident early in the game against Croatia, where he looked defensively all over the place), he could solve the the fullback conundrum. Zab, as great as he is, tends to be predictable, and goes in to freeze mode in the box, whilst Rojo isn't much to write about going forward. Ansaldi is two footed, faster, attacks space and links up better, and not shy to shoot on sight. I was impressed with the attacking thrust he offered the team. I hope he's not dropped for Rojo when he returns. There is a player in Ansaldi, if given continuity and confidence, can be an asset.

As for Gonzalo, since his WC miss, he's every ARG fan's fav scapegoat for all their attacking problems. Infact, they are never happy with whoever plays the "9" on the team. It's like they are expected to score from every chance they get, and it becomes more glaring when the chances created are few and far between. Now the popular call is for Icardi. If he flops, the call will be for some 15y.o talent.
Not saying Higs had a good match. He should have been a lot more mobile in the box, trying to get to the crosses for instance. But he was also deprived of any meaningful service (except for that one pass from ADM where he froze). His pressing and ball recovery, however, went unnoticed. IMO, he works better when he has a #10 (messi behind him) picking up his runs, like seen in the WCQs. There was one play in the game where messi tried to slip thru the ball to him, but easily cut off by the defender, with the angle favoring the latter. I'm not a fan of Messi at RW for the NT, when he's the only worthy creative outlet they have.

Well, Tevez is back. Maybe he'll do better. Can't really do worse than Aguero and Higuain who has looked out of sorts since the WC from what I've seen, could be wrong though.

He was never good for the NT, for him to do better. lol He came at the one hour mark in both games, and didn't do much. Perhaps, a run of games might help him. But with Copa round the corner, ARG can't afford him tht luxury. And If Tevez is spearheading the attack come summer, worse yet if its the shoot-out, ARG can kiss the Copa goodbye.

PS: I forgot to lament the horrible on-the-ball show by Dimi, Ota and Guzman. Their technical incompetence (dwelling on the ball too long, poor pass selection) deprived ARG of any worthy counters.

Tevez has also sucked for Juventus lately, I think he is finished...

Oh yeah, the six games in which he failed to beat Atletico showed his tactical acumen

To be fair in three of those six games a draw suited Barca.

In one of the other three they missed a load of chances and in another the referee wrongly disallowed a Barca goal which would have probably won the league.

Fine margins and not as simple as failing to beat them 6 times as if they were not good enough to.

Not many teams managed to beat Atletico last season. 1 more minute and they were going to end up as the Champions League winner as well.

None of our games with athletico was settled by more than a goal as far as i remember which wasnt bad against a team who were cl runners

It was still bad, because even though they had good players and an incredible collective unit, Atletico simpy couldnt compare to the players Real and Barcelona had. Real and Barcelona was expected to win.
