Gerardo "Tata" Martino

Tata was a bit better than Lucho, but has everyone forgotten some of his golden statements? As the time he said he wanted Messi involved as little as possible? Or giving up too soon and then losing the league. Neither of the 2 are good enough to coach Barça.

At the time those comments came across as Tata trying to protect Messi and I think he was trying mind games in saying title was gone. Coachs do that all the time.

Tatas biggest mistake for me is that he was over awed by the likes of Xavi and didnt have the balls to change the tactics away from the pure slow pssing style that Xavi wanted.

From what I remember there were murmers of Xavi not being happy and then the style seemed to change and towards end of season it was back to the old pure passing style with Xavi and Iniesta.

All three of Tito, Tata, and Lucho were subpar but Tata seemed to have the best period of really great play in the beginning. In better circumstances he could've had a better run. Tito never made me feel like the team was great even with the 100 points I felt nervy every match because Messi saved the day SO MANY TIMES. Lucho is just horrible.

Hi:

People forget that we lost La Liga, the Champions League, and La Copa Del Rey in the second half of the season. Actually, we were in the finals of the Copa del Rey and lost La Liga in the last game. We were a goal away from winning both of them. People also forget that Messi, Neymar, Pique, and Victor Valdes suffered serious injuries. We saw how the team played without Messi and Neymar against Real Sociedad. We also forget that Messi spend a lot of his time, when on the pitch last year, vomiting. Any one of these players, especially Victor Valdes would have made the difference of one goal, in the crucial matches. Just one goal scored or one goal less scored against us. Instead we had to rely on a 38-year-old goal-keeper who was done.

People also forget that we had a disastrous pre-season touring Asia that set the team back for weeks. Yet at tis time, with all the players healthy, we were 15-1-1. Tata Martino was a miracle worker and the Barcelona Sports Press run him out of town. Do not forget that Lucho got reinforcements and Tatas none.

When Barca was playing like we could in the first half, the press was critcizing because "Barca does not play like Barca," whatever that meant. I completely disagree here. Tata, imho, was a miracle worker and a hell of a coach. Tata got fed up with the politics of Barelona from his bosses and legacy players and decided to leave towards the end of the season regardless of the outcome - he is a gentleman - too much class.

One last observation from me. Do you realize that Pep, with a loaded Bayern team, in a one-twam league, is not the same coach he used to be with Barcelona? The reason, imho, is that the genius behind Barca's success passed away - Tito Vilanova. Tata was a worthy successor to Tito. With the untimely passing of Tito and the departure of Tats, we are in trouble. The only coach that could replace them is already under contract - Bielsa. However, Bielsa is too unpredictable when it comes to continuity with any team. Do not forget that Pep spent a year studying under Bielsa, in Argentina. I believe that Pep lived in Bielsa's house.

tata was class. any other coach would've complained about the mindstate of players, about the transfers, about the attack from the press and how he was NEVER protected by the board or anyone. but he went out without saying a word about these circumstances. i was so happy when we hired that humble guy, but unfortunately for him he didn't realize he was getting into a bad company, i mean the board, those treacherous dirty bastards. tata was a prideful man, that's why he didn't stay, and that's why he didn't blame anyone, because it would sully barca's name, not the board's name. if only he had support..

So you completely forgot the 1st half of the season or were you too small to remember things at that time?

No but in the beginning the players did what he told them, and then they started to control him. He had a weak personality

Still we shouldnt have sacked him, we had to give him more power.

lol at the idea that Tito was the genius behind barça. We know he wasn't. The 100 points league was Messi's genius and no one else.
Martino was clearly much better than Lucho. He has his shortcomings but never would I have let him go like that

Was better than Lucho, yes.. should've stayed for a second season - NO.

He has said himself, that he failed to teach Barca squad anything new.

he did NOT have a weak personality. he was humble and prideful. any other coach would've started taking shots at players who were against him, anyone apart from tata and pep would hint to the troublemakers, smearing the image of the club or of the players, but that would be futile because even the BOARD was against him as they did not need someone with his own ideas, but they wanted a mere puppet. going against the players would only make things worse and hurt the image at least of the coach who didn't have a support from the fans, the board, the press, the players. tata acted smart. he decided to quit without saying a single negative word when he saw how dirty the club's policies were. he stayed and fulfilled his contract because he had pride. tata > * weak my ass. the way he left emphasizes on how mentally strong he is. he is a boss. screw the board.

So he should have gone Mou on the player then huh?

Danger Ahead
Tata could have succeed with Barca if:
-He didn't abandon his counterattacking philosophy.
-Had signed a proper CB and second GK.
-Continued smartly with rotations (rotating against Sociadad away is always a bad idea).
-Wanted to commit long term.

Tata needed his signings, too bad he couldn't stay for the second season.

He declined to sign players. Ofc, Rosell convinced him we didn't need players, but in one of his interviews about Barça, Tata said he'd do everything differently, if he could.
But yet, some of his mistakes were due to only himself. As isolating Messi in the rw, trying to fit Cesc at all costs, and the worst, that was giving up on the league before it was over.

I agree with everything you said, but I still think he would have done better job in the second season.
