I'd rather we kept Braith then. Surely paid less and I didn't hear him complain.
I don't disagree but Koeman doesn't trust MB enough to start him in "easier" games. He wouldn't think twice about starting Memphis even in a big game so we'd get another player to add to the rotation upfront. And his versatility could also be useful especially with Fati's injury concerns.
I've said it before we should have a shorter squad on paper next year but at the same time we should increase number of "effective" players who Koeman will actually use instead of them just being here for a number. Bringing in Depay, Gini and Garcia to replace Braithwaite, Puig and Umtiti for example would give us 16-17 players who I believe Koeman would have a total trust in assuming Fati, Roberto (if he's not sold) and Pique will also be healthy. Right now we have once de gala and not much more with 17 year old Ilaix basically being our 12th man. And as much as I like him and believe he has a bright future that's not a good sign for overall depth of the team.
With limited resources I don't think we can improve overall quality at the top of the team drastically over the summer by getting individual difference makers (would be very happy to be wrong and see Laporta somehow manage to sign Haaland though). What we can do though is improve overall depth. Having 16-17 potential starters is better than having just 11-12 of them even if some "starters" should still be replaced. Don't think we're in that situation this summer though.
If we can get 10-12m for Braithwaite from an EPL club (so we basically cover his value on the books and wouldn't have a loss on him) and get Memphis "for free" on a reasonable 3-year contract I wouldn't be against that. He would clearly play as long as Koeman is here and if a new coach comes and won't count on him we can sell him for whatever we get without having any loss on him. He'll only be 28 next year so he's not that old.
