Gini Wijnaldum

[Fabrizio Romano] Gini Wijnaldum is ready to accept a lower salary than what he currently earns at Liverpool, same as Aguero, to join Barcelona. Deal to be completed soon.

Would be good stuff if Laporta got them on lower salaries. I guess there's still the dream of Barcelona. Would erase all my (rest) doubts I have about them.

What's the alternative? Just focus on two more expensive quality players? And go into the season with the same depth/core?

for me it feels a bit risky to take a gamble on all the available free players.

those players are not leaving their clubs because they are too good, but because are not needed.

garcia is dead weight for me, just to make up numbers.
aguero i can understand, hopefully he stays injury free.
depay feels like a lot of hype but with clear question marks.
wijnaldum would have made sense a couple of year ago. not another pjanic who comes here at he end of his career to have a care-free life for good money. yeah, profile is interesting in terms of stamina and energy, but we had that with paulinho and he couldn't pass to save his life.

all i'm saying is that it seems we have no real plan and no real scouting. we just filtered the free agents on transfermarkt and just went for the high profile ones.

5th choice CB at City
2 over 30s players that might be past it or susceptible to injuries
1 man utd reject that plays the same position as griezmann, messi

nothing to be hyped about really

So much negativity. Compare these guys to what we have now and I'd say we are in better shape than last season.

We basically played the whole season with:
- Offense: Dembele/Griezmann/Messi
- Midfield: Busquets/Frenkie/Ilaix/Pedri

That's freaking tragic. We need depth as much as quality signings. Especially since our supposed squad players have been proven to be worthless (Pjanic, Braithwaite and so on). Maybe the next bunch (if we get Wijnaldum, Garcia, Emerson, Depay and Aguero) are bums as well, it's always a bet after all, but generally I have a much better feeling with Wijnaldum than Pjanic for example.

Yes, when you put it on paper like that, it's truly tragic roster. It's insane how bad the roster was this season. Hopefully our new signing pan out..

it wasn't tragic at the start. most in here were thinking that we were in better shape than previous season.

then one after another all the usual suspects failed because that's what they are.

The balance of the team was completely off. No striker, too many players want to operate same space, no wingers etc. Billion issues.

Barca were after Wijnaldum, Depay and Garcia last summer so not quite about scouring the free transfer list.

They all improve the squad on relatively 'low' wages.

Cant see anyone getting over hyped other than this improves the squad and brings some things that were missing.

I think it will be a great window if it goes like this:

Garcia for Umtiti
Wijnaldum for Pjanic
Depay for Coutinho
Aguero for Braithwaite

It is pretty shrewd movements so far.

If Koeman stays (Which I'm now expecting) then it is key to give him the bench he trusts.

I'm curious though if Koeman will want Coutinho still next season. I'm sure Laporta will talk him out of that insanity.

Too bad Koeman will stay. At the 12 month he will already be gone.

He is not good tactician, he is really is to predict.
