Gini Wijnaldum

Hardly a big deal at the end of the day.

A CB and LB a bigger priority, but obviously would have been nice to get him for free on reasonable wages.

And btw, while he is going to a better team he is also going to a team whose manager want to leave.

Not if there is a written agreement pending medical being passed.

The same way players can sign pre-contracts 6 months before a contract expires. They are not taking a medical with the new club while under contract with the existing club are they?

Ok, he didn't sign a pre-contract.
Question is how do we know it wasn't his agent who put delay in the deal?
Why the assumption it is on the club? when few days ago his agent was also negotiating with Bayern? And even then it was said we weren't the best offer for him anyway.
Maybe it was his agent telling him wait maybe we find another offer?
Honestly, if a player isn't joining us because he is getting double his salary, I can't put blame on club, it is just not anyone's fault

It weakens squad. Wijnaldum would be Barcas second best midfielder and bring things others dont.

An area of team that needed addessed and will most likely now go into season with same midfield as last season with Busquets a year older and slower.

If they do try to address the midfield area and bring in another player it means less funds for other areas such as CB and LB.

The frustration is more the club fucked up the transfer as much as anything and by time agreed Koeman as coach and both club and Wijnaldum agreed to deal was all too late.

Wijnaldum was in negotiations with Liverpool for a contract extension well into spring this year wasn't he? He probably didn't want to sign a pre-contract and waited to see if Liverpool would improve their offer to him.

Again... if the club fuck about for months and cant get deal done then at last minute are gazumped when think they have it done. That is on the club for leaving open to that.

You keep repeating same thing as if anyone is complaining about not matching PSG when no one is saying that.

Absolutely, we can only go by media reports. His agent has undoubtedly offered Wijnaldum around Europe.

The only point I will add is that we know we have been interested in Wijnaldum since last summer. That Koeman wanted him since arriving and that Wijnaldum at varying points wanted to join Barcelona. For whatever reasons it hasn't closed.

Possibly there's a point that they feel Barcelona are stalling and reached out to other parties with Barcelona offer on the table and see if anyone else improves it. At which point now PSG have upped their offer.

It just seems that we had plenty of opportunities to have this closed already. Again going from media reports.

Doesnt seem like Liverpool ever offered him a further improved deal and it was clear to all he was leaving months ago.

Maybe the current board wanted to do their due diligence and not match the offer the interim board or last board agreed with Gini? They did the same with Eric Garcia where they re-negotiated the terms offered to him.

A lot of factors in play here.

They offered Eric Garcia the deal he signed months ago.

For Wijnaldum it was never said that previous board had a deal in place.

They didn't.

It was reported they re-negotiated the salary offered by the interim board or last board. They wanted to reduce the salary previously offered.

'They didnt' what?

I am well aware it was reported Garcia was offered reduced deal... months ago.
