I don't think Higuain is near as bad as people here claim. He's a top striker, who's had some bad luck in important matches.
Juve are going all-in for the ChL and must be realizing that it's soon going to be last call for the likes of Buffon and Chiellini. Perhaps the loss of Pogba will be too hard for them, but at least they're trying to alleviate it by signing instant impact players line Higuain.
Silly business in the long run, yeah, but when gunning 100% for the ChL the coming season, they could do a lot worse as I see it.
