It's a combination of shit finishing and him being not having a decisive answer to LL defensive tactics that was perfected by decades of Simeone + Mourinho + Bordalas + etc and all the LL teams emulating them.

Flick is obviously a good coach so I expect him to come up with an answer to this, maybe not with the current roster as our depth is pretty shit, but when he is allowed to make signings.

He's just not ready for the LL bulshit and consistently underestimates these small sides like Celta, Las Palmas, etc. Every team in La Liga knows how to defend like prime Simeone and waste time like Bordalas, there are no teams like Southampton. I doubt he ever faced this type of game where a team grabs a goal and then just shuts down for 90 mins. In LL that is another Tuesday with added ref heroics.

Im torn, on one hand some of these losses we have had has been unexusable but i dont think any other coach would have done better. probably worse.
His game management leaves something to desire more often than not, but he gets results against the biggest teams.
The „worst“ coach in the world got better results in his worst season with worse players.

When we are finishing our chances it works, when we don't we're fucked.
Yes, exactly. How is that a problem? Our players get tons of chances and their job is to convert just a few of them, 2 or 3 would do the job. Instead they miss every single one. THAT is not on Flick. That is on players being too relaxed and thinking things will sort themselves out.

The issue is not defensive tactics only. This has happened even under Pep as I said, losing points to top defensive displays. The bigger problems are getting dominated by Celta, Sociedad, Betis. So, it seems that Flick also has problems facing aggressive offensive teams.

If Barca pick up 9 points vs Betis, Osasuna, Sociedad, and lose this match, the point totals looks very good.

Any manager could have done better.

Taking Lewandowski off was completely justified. This was easily one of his worst performances in the Barca shirt. Unrecognizable as a player. Even though Ferran didn't do much either, it was necessary to try and change something there.
I agree he should score at least one (the one when he took down the ball nicely but his shot was way too weak) and it was below his standard but still, Lewa is Lewa and hauling his ass off the pitch at 65 mins or something was shooting ourselves in the foot, worse than stupid. We needed the target man to stay on. The best thing the subs did was Ferran's heel which gave the oportunity to Kounde, which was wasted, coz guess what! Kounde is not a striker lol. Lewa should be kept on to score or assist, we lacked the creators today except Rafi. Ferran and Firmin SHOULD be subbed on, but not at the cost of Lewa and surely not this early in the game.

I would love to see Pep here. He wouldn't be able to hack it. We really need to sell some players. I've said it many times before. The culture of the club stinks. It's too mediocre, too entitled. Too prone to folding when adversity hits. I'm sure there are ten teams in la liga who would have come back against Leganes after being a goal down. Grinding out results is part of football an life in general. There are many times regular folk feel like shit and still have to perform or risk being sacked. That grit is sorely lacking here.

We are set up to have our fullbacks as our main creative attacking outlet.

Kounde and Balde combined don't have a creative attacking neuron in their brain.

This team needs TAA, Robertson, Hakimi, Davies...type fullbacks. Ones that can take on opponents, create and be an attacking threat.
I said this in the chat but the fact our two fullbacks are attacking liabilities is hugely damaging when facing parked buses.

Fullback overlaps are a key key part of opening up low defenses because you need to create numerical superiority on the wings and use your width to the best of your ability.

We have two guys who are clueless at attacking, like three chances fell to Kounde today, he missed all of them - with an attacking fullback we win today most likely.

Against low defenses like that the chances will come to your fullbacks sometimes as the attackers are all smothered by their defensive marking, so you need good overlapping fullbacks...

Yes

This is a problem especially against low blocks.

We need 2 BIG full-back transfers in the winter already. one for the left, one for the right
