Of course it makes sense. That is why it's not very smart to go full intensity with a small squad vs teams you could beat playing a lower tempo. It's tied to pacing the team for a full season to make sure you don't fall off a cliff midpoint. All these things are very important and Flick made big errors here by not looking at the bigger picture.

We have had useless bench for years and years now,
It didn't start this season.

Hopefully we can work out some loan deals in January. There must be some good players who are out of favour with their current clubs???

Sure, but in the past we were more pragmatic and used to rack up 1-0 and 2-1 wins in the league often. The team played differently and in the league it was effective. More solid in defense mainly, it was tougher for the other teams to score against us. And we knew how to suffer and even defend narrow leads when the attack had an off day.

Hell, we kept a clean sheet vs Atletico in 4 consecutive games in the league. How many expect a clean sheet today with the huge spaces we leave behind in the defense?

The style of Flick is much more demanding in terms of effort and intensity, which for a short squad filled with young players... it's a big problem when trying to deal with fatigue over a 38 games competition.

“If someone had said in the summer that we would be first in LaLiga and second in the Champions League on December 20, we would have said: Okay, we'll take that. We lost a few points, which was tough. Of course you have to win against Leganés and Las Palmas. We want to achieve the big things this season, but it's not easy. We're not happy with the situation, but we have to fight - until the end of the season. We want to win titles, it won't be easy.”

Flick's very true statements are like a slap in the face to the posters around here who said La Liga is easy to win, with only Madrid to be concerned about, and beating the smaller sides is very straightforward. It is obviously not that easy to beat the midtable and bottom table clubs, as Flick found out very quickly.

He is finding out why Spanish sides have dominated all relevant European competitions.
