4231 has never reality worked out well for Barcelona. But I think there's a difference between the way Flick wants to play it under a high pressing German system and the way we tried it previously under Koeman (initially), Rijkaard (initially) And other failed adventures such as Charly Rexach.
Different players. Different squads. Different times.

Also, current Barcelona isn't exactly doing the best in a 433...........

Streich, Nagelsmann, Tuchel ??
Streich - yes. If you take him with the Freiburg surrounding. Freiburg is its own universe.

Tuchel - no, never. Atleast not when he talks German or is in Germany. He actually is very awkward - somehow in English he feels better especially with the english media. With the German media he has many problems.

Jupp Heynckes - the older version - really was. Not when he began but in his last seasons.

That was after Udo Lattek came back to Bayern from coaching Barcelona. Flick is on his left side.

What an absolute nightmare for Flick. Entire midfield out for the start of the season, Cubarsi , Garcia and Fermin going to the Olympics. Araujo injured.
And he's not even taken one training session.

Worst set of circumstances for a new manager.

I see a bad start and everyone getting dejected. Press will turn fast on Flick. Xavi crying about his treatment will be proven laughable. Laporta won't be able to be patient either as his own position could be in danger.

If Flick survives until winter and proves that he is a capable coach (which I doubt) we could be pleasantly surprised.

Having said all that I, as most of fans, will most probably again be a sucker and hope for miracles from the get go.

I guess if we get Merino on the cheap, the starting trident for the beginning of the season will be Gundo-Merino at the base, and Fermin or Raphina (most probably) in the 10 role

Well then he’s unlikely to make it here as he’s too old for improvement

I don't rate him that high, but he is the same age or younger to the likes of Araujo, Roberto, Pedro & Puyol when they made it to the first team.
Roberto is kind of his "hopeful " scenario IMO. A versatile player who can do several stuff.

Btw, one good thing about this off season is that we are more discreet. Not many names leaked, only Nico thanks to the Spanish NT. Some smoke but not 10% of the usual stuff, mostly either made up or leaked from outside (agent or the other club) and a sudden surprise with the Dest deal.
