Hansi Flick - how do we rate him?

I thought for sure we had both this game and the celta game won, when we were 1 goal up with minutes to go.

I have learned my lesson.

That's my point though.

This style of play is really dependent on the players pressing like madmen and to do that they also need to be rotated effectively to be able to keep up their fitness levels.

When they cannot do it this can get easily exploited, and there's a clear lack of control.

Would be better if Flick calmed it down in games like these considering we literally cannot rotate Raphinha and Lamine much as Ferran and Ansu are a waste of squad space for the most part.

That's a valid point.
We need more depth to support Hansi's high-energy style of play.
The board should seriously look into the January market for smart and cheap acquisitions
Something both Deco and Laporta have proven totally incapable of doing

That said, saying that we should have an 'alternative' way of playing that involves slow buildup is totally NONSENSE
No coach can change the team's identity into something else.
Did you ever see Klopp changing from high-tempo end to end to slow buildup when he had a bad run of games?
Did you ever see Pep doing the same and moving away from his slow buildup?
NEVER

What they did is simply re-inforce their basic principles and did better what they used to do anyway

This whole discussion about having alternative styles of play is propagated by the typical BF user, who has no clue about real football and coaching, and comes up with nonsensical BS to fight his annoyance every time team doesn't play well

There is no Flick-ball together with slow buildup. If you wanted to see slow buildup look at how last season looked under Xavi

IMHO this is not about Xavi or Flick. It's about other things. The lack of IQ, the lack of balls or we can call it the lack of winning mentality. If we take the sample of only 3 games: PSG home game last season and Celta or Betis game this season, they all have the same pattern.

1. The lack of IQ (red cards, penalties, stupid mistakes and goals in overtime). First I thought that inexperience is the reason for all of that. However, if you analyse those games, the biggest mistakes were done by experienced players. Araujo, Kounde, Inigo and FDJ. That's not the lack of experience but rather the lack of IQ.

2. The lack of balls - during the last few years we lost many games that some average team with balls would win on muscles. However we act like a small team and not Barca. As a result even Betis was able to corner us for more than half an hour.

Furthermore, there is one more thing that bothers me. After we won against Bayern and Real we acted like we just won CL. However, in all fairness we had a bit of luck in both of these games. We did exactly the same shit when we won 4-0 at Bernabeu with Xavi in charge. Players were writing shit on Twitter like "Barca is back". Some of older members for sure remember what Puyol did to Thiago and Alves when they were celebrating like two clowns an insignificant goal. That is the kind of leadership we desperately need right now. Our players first need to learn to be humble and than maybe they will achieve something significant. Until than they just need to shut the fuck up.

he’s losing the plot.

The offside trap has been mostly figured out and even trash teams are putting up 10 shots on us per game.

And he continues with Pena

Won’t survive till the end of season if he keeps this up
Yup
Called it

Leave it to Birdy to cartwheel around and tell everyone how unbeatable that approach is because when skilled players execute it, you can't do nowt about it

Two idiots trying to talk about football...
Things you'd love to see!

- The 'offside trap has been figured out' is a proposition that becomes true when a team DOES indeed manage to break the offside trap with through balls CONSISTENTLY during a game, despite our last line being on the half-way line

- Did that happen tonight? NO.
Betis 'broke' the line only once with Abde's chance in the 1st min.

- Has any team THUS FAR managed to do so? NO

- What did happen tonight? Our defense simply failed try to play the trap properly, and registered 0 offsides for Betis. That must be a season record. We have 6.8 or so average, and in a good game (like vs Mallorca mid-week) we register 10 or more.
They failed because the defenders were not concentrated and did not advance as high as needed

In fact, what you saw tonight is a preview of what will happen if what the football geniuses in here propose as a 'more pragmatist' approach: the line will not be high enough, but the opponent will still manage to create chances.

Pena is the least of our problems. Our problem is that we can't control games and that every decent team can generate many clear chances against us.

Without Pena we would have lost vs Betis. I have no idea why people are picking on him after a game he had like at least 2 great saves.

'Every decent team can generate many clear chances against us'
if we DON'T play the HIGH line properly and HIGH, like tonight

When you're losing games in the last minutes and seconds your tactics are at fault.

Weakmindedness of players doesn't help, this team is also on the verge of being negative in masculinity.

If both Barca and RM continue this inconsistent form AM will sneak their way to the title.
I said it before. Flicks football is high precision football. Everything has to be working in unison or it falls apart.
One of the biggest issues I see is a lack of concentration and motivation from the players. When we are motivated and cooking we have matches where we blow away teams. If not we struggle.
I said it before. This team is better suited for cup football. I'd put my money on us, winning Copa or even CL before the league.
