Hector Bellerin

Arsenal fans are so confident he will turn us down, but he doesn't sound that sure about rejecting us anymore.

Bellerin can say whatever he want, but the truth is still that he joined La Masia when he was 8 years old. His family is from Barcelona and so is his girlfriend. He is a Barca fan.

Returning would always be a very intriguing option for him. Cesc was their captain and he couldn't resist, so what is Hector in comparison.....

I don't think anyone really believes it will never happen, but it's an impossible transfer for this season. Cesc had nearly a decade of trophyless seasons with 4th place finishes before he wanted to move. Bellerin's two seasons have included an FA Cup and a 2nd place finish so far; he's actually seeing progress. Cesc was surrounded by shit players like Bendtner, Denilson, Squillaci, Silvestre, etc. while Bellerin joined a team with Ozil, Alexis, Cazorla, and Koscielny. Wenger is also going to give him the #2 shirt next season, and he isn't even a Spain international yet.

I haven't even mentioned how we have no backups at RB. If anything, Bellerin to Barca is a problem for next summer.

He might actually stay and not do a Fabregas, but him saying it's not an option for him and mentioning his family as a reason is as fake as it comes.

Getting his first cap for the Spain NT, and might even be on the squad for the Euros to replace Carvajal

That's pretty rich considering that it was a 1 point difference. Alves is twice the player Bellerin is.

It's not 2010 anymore though. Alves has been pretty crap for a while. He could still put a performance in but he had more bad games than good ones in recent seasons

Bellerin isn't worth what he'd cost compared to the nothing we'll get for Alves, but I wouldn't see it as a big downgrade given the age involved.

He offsets his inexperience with his pace. He is ridiculously fast, faster than Walcott even.

Looks like Barca aren't after him this summer, but I feel like it didn't make any sense to come for him this early. Next summer will most likely be the transfer window where Barca puts in a proper bid, and our position won't be so strong. He'll have 2 years left on his contract then, and will have had a full season with the #2 shirt and being in the spotlight. Bayern has been linked with him as a possible Lahm/Rafinha replacement too, PSG after they get rid of Aurier as well. If we don't win anything next season and Wenger leaves, it will be hard keeping hold of him.

He's getting old and tired, but doesn't want to go without leaving behind a good squad for the next manager. It really feels like next season is his last one. Bellerin seems really grateful to Wenger, and might not be for the next manager (if he's offered double salary, opportunity to go home, trophies, etc?). Here's an interview where he looks back on how he came from Barca to where he is now:
