He still needs time to adapt it seems ...he wasn't bad, but he wasn't good either.

I don't think it's a question of adaption, more of a question of him being afraid. He seems a bit too tentative at times but otherwise, he's fitting in well with the one touch passes and the overall passing game of Barca, which is the primary part of our game.

I think you're right. The expetation bar is too high. And he's probably doing what Pep asked him to.

He stays wide too much imo. Often, you could see Dani Alves running inside because Afellay didn't; it would be better if Afellay plays more central as the attack develops. So he should open up the flank more often, and he should try to connect with our midfield and attack better, I often felt like he didn't want to get himself involved in our attacks. He's better on the left than on the right imo, as you guys said too.

Maybe we should just use Afellay as Xavi's sub(so no need for Fabregas, at least not now), which was Afellay's position at PSV. Then buy Arda Turan for the attacking trident(rotation with Pedro).

Is Arda's contract is running out soon? So, bargain price(considering his quality)?

affelay can't play xavis position!! his contract is running out next summer but he wants to go after this season. without giving affelay he's worth 13 million. thats also the price atletico wants to pay + 3,5 mill. yearly salary.

Thiago as Iniesta's sub. As Thiago is more similar to Iniesta than Xavi. And the more advanced position would allow for Thiago to take more risks and minimize us getting caught out on the counter.

Come to think of it, that would leave Keita out... So perhaps my idea isn't good.

I agree, as a CM Afellay is not good enough for Barça. He should play as a left winger for us, that's the position that suits his qualities the best.

I can see where you're coming from, and I respect your views and Kadeng's views, but I'd like to see Afellay being given a run of matches(excluding the possible Champions League final) as a centre mid after the 2 Clasicos. We should fully explore our squad options before the summer transfer window.

Sure, Pep could give it a try. I'm just skeptical about the outcome. I think Thiago is a better midfielder for us than Afellay.
