Bold 1: He's not, his long shots are horrible. Even so horrible they won't even make the highlights of the match on television.

Bold 2: He's not like this for the Dutch NT, so he can play tikkie-takkie. I only doubt he has the vision for Barcelona. He sometimes starts with something without having any clue what he's doing. He often manages to get himself out of such situation beautifully in the Dutch Eredivisie, but he won't at a higher level.

There is nothing wrong with his longshots. The only thing that he needs to improve is his efficiency.

You are correct that at PSV he keeps the ball longer compared to his playstyle at the Dutch squad. It has to do with the quality of the players around him. Good players offer more options to pass. Thats why Im confident that he will adapt his playstyle to that of Barca. Guardiola will make sure of that. I disagree with the comment on Afellay sometimes not knowing what he is doing. When he keeps the ball with him and starts an action, he either wants to move towards the goal or temporise with the purpose of releaving the team from the pressure of the opponent.

Afellay is Barca's seventh signing from PSV:

Koeman
Romario
Ronaldo
Cocu
Zenden
Van Bommel

Looking at that list I think we did extremely good signing players from PSV. All except Zenden made a lasting mark in FCB history.

Of course not. It's about how you use it. A lot players (like Cristiano Ronaldo, but of course also Messi or Romario) has started their football-career with street soccer, Afellay too. But not everyone could do the same skills on the pitch as they do on the streets. C. Ronaldo can do this, Afellay can do this, but not as much as Cristiano Ronaldo. And Afellay has a great shot from distance, but of course, not every shot is a goal. But really, Afellay could become a great Barca-player, he has a lot of potential, but he has to grown if he want to come in the starting 11. ;)

i know, was just reffering to the above comment ; where IMO the characteristics stated just describes C.R....i think to be honest ibi can seriously be very influential on the left flank (a cover for pedro) aswell...

he has skills to get pass players, he can always cut in and make a shot (as agreed previously he has a good shooting ability), plus his passing /through balls and crosses will also be handy....and if he does that all... he is our C.R

I have to agree with you, especially about the long shots. He hardly ever manages to place his long shots on goal, most of the time those shots just go into the stands.

I think his vision will improve though, because I think he'll get used to having better players around him. In PSV, he was the only creative player, really.

Yes, but that nothing to do with his game-vision.

He lacks in my opinion the ability to know what will happen and what he'll gonna do at the moment he gets the ball. He sometimes gets the ball, does something and thén starts to think what to do. Not always, but even rarely is too often for a Barcelona player. So he has to improve in that aspect if he wants to succeed. I don't say he can't, never said that.

I'm not here to bash Afellay, since he's a great person and player. But some here have lost the grip on reality.

And even in the year he scored an high amount of goals, his shots where average. He can score great long-distance goals occasionally, but 9 out of 10 his shots end up somewhere in the second ring.

But despite all the flaws I've mentioned, I still see him as a fantastic player who might succeed at Barcelona. Thát does say something about his qualities, that he surely has.

Eiður Guðjohnsen also played for PSV, although he didn't make the step PSV - Barcelona instantly. Got severly injured and the medical staff expected him never to be able to play at a high level anymore.

He obviously got talent, and wtching those videos he got alot of quality, but also i hear that hes quite inconsistant, so what the various Barca trainers have to do is to coach him into beeing able to do it more often, and if theres any club that is good to "mold" quality players, its Barcelona.

Also noticed after hes scoring hes always doing the "im the best, look at me" kinda thing which i dont really like. Celebrating the goal as a team effort with your teammates is part of the spirit of Barca and is something he has to learn.

He is got talent. Look at the way he shoots with both legs. We may see long range goals in Nou Camp and one at Bernabeu in April ;) He will give us the flexibility because he can play in both wings. . Anyways he needs to adapt to the system. Hopes he will..

what's his typical stats per season at psv? goals/assists

It varies because of his position. The closer you get him to the goal, the more he will score. When he played more offensive he scored 13 goals in the Dutch competition. Thats one more then what Cocu ever managed to do in one season, he got stuck on 12 goals. Van Bommel in his last year at PSV scored 14 times, which was his best year in terms of goals. His 2nd best is 9 goals also for PSV. For the last 1,5 season Afellay plays in front of the defense. Last year 4 goals in 29 matches, this year 6 goals in 19 matches.

His strength is to enable others to give the assist or to score goals. All attacks went through Afellay, after Cocu decided to end his career. Afellay made it possible for PSV to dominate a lot of games. He was the creative mind and architect of our game. So without the goals still a crucial role within a team. Xavi and Iniësta arent famous for scoring goals, but can Barca do without them?
