I hope not. It's a KO competition. In Bilbao. There really is no need to start a newbie.will he start in bilbao
Pep said he was impressed by Afellay in training. About his using both feet, etc.. It's good news, except.. it is a sign Pep didn't exactly know what he is getting.
He has everything to become like ... INIESTA both can play with both feet, both can play as winger or on midfield, both hardly loose balls, and both have world class technique. Both seem a bit timide on first impression.
uhmmm afellay is actually nothing like iniesta... very hard to compare the 2..
One relies on pace and shooting the other on effective dribbling and vision. Afellays technique is also nothing like iniestas, where iniesta has very close ball control and uses feints alot afellay has more of a basic wild uncontrolled looking ronaldoish technique.. also his biggest point of criticism has always been his lack of vision, holding on to the ball for too long and using his dribbling and technique in the wrong way (he ussually does it on the wrong parts of the pitch and most of the times ineffectively)
Lack of vision? You can't be serious...have you seen how he opens the game from left to right.
excellent.vision as in seeing the little spaces and openings before he gets the ball.. you cant deny that his usual game is receiving the ball and then think about what he is going to do with it which often results in running with the ball... you are talking about overzicht (overview, or whatever its called in english) its not that hard to pass (he does have great passing skills) when you have options and a bit of time on your hands it gets alot more complicated when the time and options are limited.. you cant say he doesnt lack in that department becuz if he didnt he would be worldclass as its the only thing he lacks

Well first of all i like to think for myself i dont blindly take what big pundits say and accept it as the truth (not saying you do) just becuz it is coming from them... Mind you van hanegem is the same guy that said pique was a horrible clumsy defender (he said this on sport1 2 years ago) and would never become world class and also the same guy that is saying feyenoord can become champions with their current squad in 2 years. I do think he knows alot about football, surely more then me but he also says alot of dumb stuff aswell.Did you hear what Van Hanegem said on Sport1 during the preview of the match Barca - Levente? It all comes down to the options other players give you. Thats the determinant factor of playingstyle. You say he lacks in that department, I say he never had to consistently use those skills in the Dutch competition. You say its the only thing he lacks, I say he needs to improve every aspect of his game.
Im watching the first half now, which just finished. I see a lot of opportunities for Afellay. I can't wait to see him debut. This would have been a perfect game for him.
I do agree with you that Afellay isnt an Iniësta. Iv seen Iniësta give passes that Afellay won't give. Afellay has other qualities that Iniësta doesnt have. Its useless to try and make him the new Iniësta.
