I would. I don't see what would change.

It's like asking if I would still support PSG when qatar will leave. Of course I will, I was a fan before they arrive. I still am, and will still be.

That said, supporting doesn't include being blind, so right now, I'm 100% boycotting PSG.

As for Barcelona and Dortmund, despite their flaws, I will still support them. Even if Barcelona loses Messi, and even if Dortmund ends up last this season.

Who are the people that voted No anyway

Kerrybai, Barcagirl..who else

Got 3 here incl. me

No, and specially not once Xavi retires and/or Iniesta declines.

I voted no because I'm not a barca supporter.
I'm just a casual barca fan who enjoyed the golden years for the most beautiful and dominating football ever and also messi!
The crap way barca is playing since Pep left, if Messi leaves I don't think I'll keep watching.

I admit i never have been a 100 % "team" fan. I liked barça because of the great football and the great players they have had. Started following them during the early 90s (Stoichkov and Romario were my favorite players back then) but some other years since i hardly did.

Basically i'm a fan of great football and great players before i'm a fan of a footballteam. If Messi is forced out by the current board under these circumstances then i will still follow barça but not support them.

Also, possible troll vote:

No. I will support the team which he joins. Or Real Madrid, depending where he goes. I don't think I would follow PSG for example. In that case I will support Madrid.

Messi was the reason I started supporting Barca and at first I was Messi fan only. Now I have learn that supporing a team is more important than 1 player so yes I will still support Barca till I die.

Do what you feel is right. There is absolutely no reason for 'supporting a team' being more important than 'supporting 1 player'.

I was ribbing you because you were talking about something like "true Rafa fans" and I found that a little over-the-top. I have no problems with fanboys, except the one's on goal

absolutely yes. with all due respect for the best player in the history of this sport but Messi doesn't mean FC. Barcelona. A symbol of the club, maybe the greatest, yes, but that's it.

Players, managers, directors move on. Why wouldn't fans be allowed to? Some self-inflicted code of honour?

I think that's it. It has to do with loyalty.

It depends on how you define a fan in this situation. I would call a person a "true fan" if he supports the team over the long-term, through thick and thin. A "band-wagoner" or "glory-hunter" is on the other side of the scale.

A person doesn't have to be a true fan, but he shouldn't pretend to be one. As long as that's clear, I don't mind them.

In my case I didn't criticize anyone.

Of course people can do what they want, but then if we're just talking about Messi, if you don't follow barca anymore when he leaves/retires, it means you are a Messi fan, not a Barcelona fan. Isn't it?

Doesn't have to be.

Consider that you were watching Barca only for it's aesthetically pleasing play on the pitch. If Messi is the only reason Barca has even a little bit of that attractive play remaining, then his departure would leave no reason to keep watching Barcelona. It doesn't however make you a Messi fan, it just makes you not a steadfast Barcelona supporter.
