What did he say? That he will quit being a tennis fan when X retires? o.o

I think he was mocking me fangirling Rafa, and saying how if a certain poster was still active he would 've fixed the fanboys/girls or something along those lines.

I was ribbing you because you were talking about something like "true Rafa fans" and I found that a little over-the-top. I have no problems with fanboys, except the one's on goal

Well yeh. Thts because there are a few who support both Rafa and Fed, and I personally found/find it odd, considering their rivalry and the distinct style of the game each one endorses.
It could also be that in one very notorious tennis forum, Rafa is persistently and mindlessly denigrated and flamed by Fed fans to that point that it's made me bitter when confronting a Fed fan. :p

Doesn't have to be.

Consider that you were watching Barca only for it's aesthetically pleasing play on the pitch. If Messi is the only reason Barca has even a little bit of that attractive play remaining, then his departure would leave no reason to keep watching Barcelona. It doesn't however make you a Messi fan, it just makes you not a steadfast Barcelona supporter.

You see, that's part of my problem.

I think fans are proud to be loyal. They don't want to be lumped with people who aren't actually fans of the club.

Messi alone is not the sol reason barcelona was so attractive to watch all those years.

We can see it right now. Now that Xavi and co. are old, this Barca can sometimes be a pain to watch, messi on the pitch or not.

And before Messi, there was Ronaldinho. Before CR7, there was R9.

Actually, what does stop you to become a fan of the next club messi will join? If he joins Bayern for example, he will play the kind of the same playstyle you loved for years. If messi and the playstyle were your reason, why would you stop following messi if he joins Bayern?

Serious question, no malice intended.

If you were talking about me calling xaviniesta, that was clearly a very ironic post because I put an :alexis: smiley.

I was mocking him because he hated fanboys while he himself was by far the biggest alexis fanboy on the forum.

"You can change your wife, your politics, your religion, but never, never can you change your favorite football team.” - Eric Cantona

I agree with the quote but i also think it is not a crime to change your football team if you follow it because of only one player. You are the fan of so and so player and were never a fan of the club. And if you were never a fan of the club then it is not a betrayal. If barca means so much to you then you would not want to change your favorite team but if you are open to the idea of changing your favorite team then that means you are not a true fan of the club, you are just a fan of the player. At least that is what i think.

And about players, manager who move on they will not change their favorite team if they were true fans. It is just that they are professionals and have to move on to make their living. I still think pep favorite team is barca even though he does not want to revel it in the public.

Barçapocalypse NOW!
I got over the great and mighty Oleguer leaving and still supported the club, why would it be different if Messi leaves?

Sorry but no that quote is stupid

Tastes can change over time. That includes everything and everyone. It doesn't mean it will, but depending on the person it can, and it's not a crime.

Cantona was a great footballer, but it doesn't mean he can't say something utterly stupid.

And seriously, what is your problem with?? People like you are the reason why I decided to take a break from this forum. I've had enough to deal privately in the last few weeks, I don't need this shit here too ://

Django is not that serious of a poster.

If you ask me, I'd bet he was not serious at all when he said that.

Of course Messi was not the only reason and I never meant to imply that. But by now, Xavi is close to retirement and Iniesta looks to have declined or is really struggling with the current system. In today's team, Messi (and Xavi to an extent) are the only people who remind me why I stayed up nights every weekend or even during exams to follow a group of 11 players kick a ball around. If Messi left at Barca's peak, I would still watch Barca because they were a fantastic team even without him. However, I would also try to follow Messi in whichever team he was because he's the most talented player I've ever seen.

No there's nothing that will stop me from following Bayern, it's all about how you want to spend your time. Free time in a lot of people's life is a very precious commodity and most people want to make the best use of it. It is also totally possible that I will just naturally lose interest in watching football and pick up a new hobby or sport.
