Iker Casillas

Well you are defending Casillas right there so score one for generalization....

And yes, it's obvious that Casillas isn't in great form but blaming him for Messi's goals is absurd, kind of like thinking the solution to Barcelona's defense being garbage is to find a superhuman GK that stops all 1 on 1s.

I actually love how madridista's are taking gigantic dumps on Iker and those same posters always question cules loyalty and respect to their own players. Casillas really didn't do anything that bad, fair enough he could have stopped messi's FK but that was great FK at the same time, 50% of the time that was a goal.

So now I don't respect Iker? Go figure.

Interview in El Partido de las Doce:
Iker Casillas spoke about the latest news at Real Madrid today in an interview on Cadena Cope’s radio show El Partido de las Doce. "When you're at the top in world football and when you've won awards for being the best goalkeeper in the world, that means that things are going well". When asked about Cristiano Ronaldo and the comparison with Messi, the White’s captain was blunt: "I’d choose Cristiano because he is a player that has been giving us a lot for several seasons. I know him, I know how he trains and I share time with him every day."

The Whites’ captain analysed the draw against Barcelona and reminded us that Barça are not Real Madrid’s only competition to win the league: "A draw is a draw, I think we were very good. In the first half we deserved more because we created three or four dangerous chances. We drew against a team that, in all probability, will be who we will be fighting against for the league title, but we should not rule out others, such as Atletico Madrid, who have been winning during the first seven matches. There are a lot of matches to play, we’re not in December and we have to make sure that we know that we cannot drop any more points."

Regarding the two goals that Messi scored in the last Clasico and the criticism he received, Casillas said: "When you're at the top in world football and have won awards for being the best goalkeeper in the world sometimes you get criticised and sometimes not. I like it because it means that the job is being done well. Messi’s second goal? I think I could almost have done more for the first. There has been a lot of talk about the celebration a couple of weeks which has surprised me. When I concede a goal I keep it inside and if there was a camera on me for 90 minutes then when there are goals you would be able to see that, for example when Cristiano scored yesterday, my face stays the same and there are no signs of joy."

There was another question about Cristiano Ronaldo and the comparison to Messi for the Whites’ goalkeeper and that the choice between them is clear for him: "I would choose Cristiano, it is clear, because he is a player that really gives us a lot and has been making a difference for us for a few seasons and he is a player that I share time with every day. I know him, I know how he is, I know how he trains, I know what he wants, I know what he wants to achieve and he is really giving his all for us."

Casillas also explained that the most demanding person regarding his performance between the posts is himself: "I hate conceding goals and I am quite self-critical, I spend a lot of time thinking about the goals I concede after matches. You need to keep a cool head and I'm too harsh on myself. I always know that for every goal I could do much more, even if it goes in the corner. I understand that I need to be at my best. You are Casillas and you have to give a little more, but it's something that I don’t worry about. That is the path that I've gone down and you cannot really live like that because memories are short and we should not be looking at the past but should try to live the present and look to future."

Respect.

He's not being blamed for only Messi's goals though. His form this season has been below San Iker standard. And he generally isn't great at dealing with free kicks. Remember Senna's goal last season? There's no perfect keeper out there, but you give credit when it's due, and criticize when deserved.

Talk about shooting fish in a barrel. How can you generalise cules so easily when theres hardly anyone who defended Casillas here. Except Ubernujfer, but he says a lot of outlandish stuff anyway. Both Casillas and VV have been performing below their level this season.

Like I replied to Furia, it's not only about Messi's free kicks. Been below standard since the beginning of the season. And this criticism is no where near the stick cules give Valdes or any of your players.

Unless you're a Cule and you post in a Madrid topic. Then it becomes banter :p

More records:
In Dynama Stadium in Minsk Iker Casillas has today established a new record of consecutive official minutes unbeaten with the Spanish national team. The Real Madrid captain, who has gone 727 minutes without conceding has beaten the record of 708 minutes that was also his and he again becomes national team goalkeeper with the longest streak without conceding a goal.

Since the goal that Di Natale scored past him in the first match of the last European Championship in the Ukraine and Poland, Iker Casillas has put together nine matches and 727 minutes without conceding. Republic of Ireland (4-0), Croatia (0-1), France (2-0), Portugal (0-0), Italy (4-0), Puerto Rico (1-2, the Real Madrid ‘keeper came on when the team had already conceded the goal), Saudi Arabia (5-0), Georgia (0-1) and Belarus (0-4) have been the teams that could not score past the Real Madrid captain.

Casillas has passed the record of 708 minutes without conceding a goal which he held since 2008. The Real Madrid youth academy player also occupies third place in the record books with the 685 consecutive minutes which came to an end in 2005. Behind the Real Madrid player are Zubizarreta with the 567 minutes achieved during 1985 and 1986 and Zamora with his 540 minutes unbeaten during 1924 and 1925.

He also broke his own record of minutes unbeaten in non-friendly matches
It wasn’t the only one of the records that Whites’ ‘keeper already held that he managed to beat. In fact, Casillas, in amassing 691 minutes without conceding in non-friendly matches, beat the national record which has also been his since 2008, at 633 minutes.

you should check more RM forums then, there are many fans who want him sold, most of them hate that he is friends with Xavi, they believe he seems happier playing for the NT than with his club(and his performances are still consistent with the NT).

There are always stupid fans in every club. I can't speak for all RM fans, just those that I know and am associated with. There are a lot of gloryhunters out there who turned Madridistas in the past year or so.

Anybody who wishes to sell Casillas isn't a true Madridista. The one player that deserves more than he's been given is Iker. Idk what forum you've read, maybe you could provide a few links.

I PM'd you the links, there are some of them who are Spanish and still want Casillas sold, mainly because of their hate towards his friendship with Xavi. I only commented this because you made it sound as if the cules are less loyal to their players in a previous post

Iker Casillas spoke about the current situation of the team in white and in particular the draw for the Copa del Rey at a promotional event in Madrid: “You have to give Alcoyano the respect they deserve, but we must maintain our record over the last few years if we are going to reach the final of the Copa del Rey”. When asked how he feels about being an idol for so many fans, he replied: “people are very fond of me and they respect me a lot. It’s something I’m very proud of. I try to do things the best I can so that they enjoy watching Real Madrid and the national team play".

The draw for the Copa del Rey that took place at noon today means a first encounter with Alcoyano and possibly meeting Barcelona in the semi-finals, something that doesn’t worry the Real Madrid captain right now: “There’s a lot ahead of us and we have to get through two qualifying rounds. Now we must focus on Alcoyano. We’ve had some unpleasant surprises against humble teams and we have to maintain our record over the last few years if we are going to reach the final of the Copa del Rey. You have to give Alcoyano the respect they deserve because they have nothing to lose and everything to play for”.

Real Madrid will play Celta this Saturday with several defenders out due to injury. Nevertheless, Casillas has faith in Madrid’s defence in depth: "We have enough alternatives to plug the gaps left by the FIFA virus. There are players in our reserves who are very capable indeed. I am sure the boss will pick the best people for the game against Celta”. Asked if he knew how to as a left or right-back, the goalkeeper said with a smile: "The things I do, I do them right and if I don’t know how to do them right, then I don’t do them”.

He doesn’t look on himself as an idol. He just does his job as well as he can and he explains it like this: “People are very fond of me and they respect me a lot. It’s something I’m very proud of. I try to do things as well as I can so that they enjoy watching Real Madrid and the national team play”. When it comes to critical voices, Casillas is aware that he has to live with them: “You take them with a sense of humour. You have to respect people’s right to criticize. As long as it’s constructive criticism, it’s a positive thing. When you’ve been at the top and in a club like Real Madrid this long you know that in two or three matches things can change. I’ve been living many years with this. You have to keep going and try to turn those contrary voices around”.

The Madrid goalkeeper was asked about Falcao’s excellent form currently and whether he would fit in at Madrid. Casillas said he would stick with the forwards the team has now: “He’s a really great striker and he has proven it again and again in recent years. I think it’s part of the spectacle and part of football. They are just rumours, that’s all. Falcao can help us very little or not at all this season. For me, the players we have at Real Madrid are what count most, they are what I care about and the ones who have to be at their best to help us”.

Also, the Real goalkeeper sidestepped the controversy about his statements on social networks: “We all have to live with them. I expressed an opinion on my personal Facebook page. I thought it was the right thing to say and I only said it to clear up a few things and nothing more and that is the medium I chose to do it”. Finally, he referred also to the video recording which Barcelona allegedly made about Pepe: “I would be surprised if that type of video had been made. I don’t believe that a player should be recorded on video alone for any reason and I think it would be unworthy of a club like Barcelona”.

The white captain is the third Real Madrid player to reach this laudable figure, after Raúl (427) and Sanchís (412)
Just three games after attaining 300 victories in La Liga, Iker Casillas reached 400 official ones with Real Madrid. The captain of the white club arrived at this laudable figure in the Santiago Bernabéu stadium against Celta, having accumulated 301 wins in the national championship, 73 in the European Cup, 18 in the Copa del Rey, 4 in the Spanish Super Cup, 2 in the Club World Cup, 1 in the European Super Cup, and 1 in the Intercontinental Cup. He is the third Real Madrid player to amass four hundred victories, after Raúl (427) and Sanchís (412).

Iker Casillas reached his 400th official win with Real Madrid yesterday in the match against Celta in the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. The white captain has participated in seven different competitions with the team in which he grew up as a football player, and he has earned at least one victory in each of them.

Only in the Spanish Liga championship has he surpassed one hundred victories; specifically, he has accumulated 301. Following La Liga, by number of wins, are the European Cup (73), the Copa del Rey (18), the Spanish Super Cup (4), the Club World Cup (2), the European Super Cup (1), and the Intercontinental Cup (1).

He has earned the highest number of wins with Mourinho leading the team
In the 14 seasons in which Iker Casillas has accumulated wins wearing the Real Madrid jersey, he has achieved his highest number of victories with José Mourinho as coach. In fact, the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons were the only ones in which the Real Madrid captain earned at least forty victories, with 40 in 2010/11 and 41 in 2011/12.

He is the third Real Madrid player to do so
Casillas became the third Real Madrid player to reach four hundred wins with the club, although this very season he could make history and become the player with the most official wins in the history of the team. In fact, he is only 12 behind Sanchís and 27 behind Raúl.
