Iker Casillas

Remember the way Casillas made the #1 jersey his for good? 2002 CL final, Cesar gets injured, young Iker steps up and heroically denies Leverkusen any goals.

This is Adan's chance to prove his worth, three crazy games one after the other, and he will get tested time after time. Make it or break it, up to him.

Ouch. Casillas had surgery today and will be out for around 12 weeks.

Worse thing is, even after recovery, he'll hardly be back to his best till next season. Any slight discomfort in hand or arm and a keeper won't be pulling off convincing saves. 3 months for recovery, and possibly another month before he feels no pain or discomfort blocking fierce shots.

When is the Confederations cup? June? Valdes might finally get a starting place...

It's like asking for lightning to hit the same spot twice.
I'm sure he'll perform his job fine, But he won't be the one that makes the difference between a loss and a win like iker does.
The way i see it, Casillas injury was the mercy shot that RM needed, This season was never destined to have a happy ending.

Except Adan is not a young promising keeper. Most teams in primera would not consider him his first keeper.

Not the same situation at all

Not same situation, but fairly similar. Back in 2002, Casillas lost his place in the starting eleven and was relegated to the bench after poor performances. He was young then, definitely took a hit in confidence and self-belief. But he responded excellently when called upon, and in the CL final no less. I'm not saying Adan will do the same; as you said he's not spectacular or promising, and wishing for the same from him is foolish.

But great players are made in great moments, and Adan has his chance, the best chance he could get. He's relatively young for a goalkeeper, not promising but not too old to adapt as well. Either way, this could turn out either real good or real bad for him. Command his place and help team to advance, and he'll be a hero plus get that mental boost he needs. Concede plenty and cost team both Copa and UCL, and his already fragile confidence will take a massive blow.

We're screwed, but one can only hope for the best.

Mourinho has fucked it already up. Because he put Iker on the bench and saying Adan was better : Adan cannot fail now, he has to succeed and he has a massive burden on his shoulders. If Mou wouldn't have done that, we wouldn't have come to expect that from him. We just would have thought : oh yeah, it's normal he makes mistake. He wasn't first choice.

So because Mou said Adan is better, you'll expect more from him?

Like I said, make it or break it, it's all up to Adan now.
