The way I see it is, Barca put a lot of trust and faith him by giving him the biggest contract they'd ever given a youth player and at 18 has been given first team opportunities.
The very least he could do in return is not have the club over a barrel during a time of severe financial uncertainty. Repay the faith they showed him and accept that a bigger contract isn't possible right now.

This kid and his family are complete idiots. Koeman gave this kid a chance on the highest level with only 18y of age and now all of a sudden money is the main issue!? FFS kid, you are only 18y old you will have plenty of time to earn more if you are the real deal.
Sometimes these young players have the pressure of the whole family to earn as much as possible at all cost.
Dad wants to do this venture, that relative has debts, etc.
I generally can't see how the 200/300k a year will make a difference to a youth player himself.
So it's a bad combination when you got the parents pressuring for the money and partnering with an agent who is pushing a switch for his singing on fee %.
Shame as I thought Ilaix would have more will to stay here being surrounded by Ansu and Pedri who seem to have stayed content and level headed at the same age.
Yeah, to be fair, it might not be Ilaix himself making these stupid demands. I have doubts about him being in charge of his finances and he might have blind support in his family + agents here.
Ozil was like that too, until his father fucked up so bad Florentino saw it fit to sell him and only then did he ditch his father for a proper agent lol.
tbf, how many of those hyped kids make it anyway? It is smart to take the money you can get rather than wait for something that may never arrive.
But with Moriba case, the paid is already paid well and will get good pay raise in 2022. So you can't blame that for paying family debts
Nah, this excuse doesn't fly. He's 18, not 10. It's his decision. The family & entourage is only consultative.
I did not expect to have this soap opera with this youngster who didn't prove much yet.
